My take is this:
The SO2s are the better tires for the cars that they were designed for and were factory installed on. The 050s are the better tires for the cars that they were meant for and were factory installed on.

What about this question. What do you want to do with your car? I have RE750's on my car and the are wonderful. They felt a little floaty at first and the ride was a bit higher, but they last for over 20,000 miles and they take bumps a lot better. I don't track my car and use it for every day driving so they are perfect for me. But many people may hate them becasue they cause the car to feel a bit disconnected from the road. However, I was able to attend the WTD II this past April and leave people in the curves, so they must not be that bad.

having taken the stock suspension out of the equation, the RE050's are better than the S02's.....

i.e. no stock suspension on a 2000 and no stock suspension on a 2004.

GAWD, THEY'RE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

With aftermarket suspensions involved, you introduce another variable. Like xviper stated, I think the S-02 is the better tire for the '00-'03 models while the RE-050 is the better tire for the '04.
