Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position
Just wanted to know if anyone here has had experiences with the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position on there s2000. they seem to have superior ratings to even the s02's for a much more reasonable price. This is the most i want to spend on tires so would this be the best deal? Im pretty much lookin for something as performance capable and oriented as the s02's but something that will last muccch logner. and the re960's seem to be able to do just that (according to the ratings). let me know what you guys think....im runnin on metal here

Do you need all-season tires?
I bet the RE960 is one of the best all-season tires you can get for performance, but it would be a big compromise on dry and wet traction in warm weather. No way it performs as well as S02's or any other good Summer-only performance tire.

ZDan is correct, those are not going to have the dry performance of a Summer only Extreme/Max/Ultra Performance tire.
Unfortunately, 'Grippy' and 'Long-Lasting' are pretty much mutually exclusive in the tire world, the more 'performance-oriented' a tire is, the softer the compound will be, and therefore faster-wearing.
The RE050A Pole Position is currently my favorite street tire which is capable enough for autocross and track, and the RE01R is what I will be running next, it is supposedly the best performing streetable tire Bridgestone has ever made. (and is on sale right now at Tire Rack)
But if you are in a climate which requires all season-tires the 960's are some of the best.

ZDAN and CapatainMike are both on the money. While the RE960AS is the best that we have tested in an all season tire they are not going to nearly as good as the S02 in the dry. Depending on how you drive the car you may not notice. If you are an aggressive drive you will notice in the dry but the RE960 will still be better in the wet.
By the way the RE01R is very good. We turned just over 1G on the skid pad in a stock BMW 3 Series. I also have a guy here that used them in the rain at Road America and he was very fast and created quite a stir as to what tire he was running. If I can help let me know.

thanks everyone for the input...spoke to Jim yesterday and he reccomended either the kuhmo ecsta's(i think ha) or the re01r's. Im kinda tight on money and so the kuhmos look like the right choice. anyone else had any experience with these? last longer than s02's? ride comfort? noise?
