Default BFG G-Force T/A KD tread life..... NOT VERY LONG!!!

i put these tires on approximately 8000 miles ago - 225/45/17 up front and 245/40/17 in the rear, on volk ce28ns, 17 x 7.5 and 17 x 9. my s2000 is otherwise stock, and it looks like the rears are just about totally shot - less than 1/16" of tread left.

surprisingly, the wear appears to be quite even. i was expecting the inside edge to get chewed up more quickly due to the stock alignment, but if it has been, i can't tell.

i wasn't expecting a long life out of these tires, but this is somewhat disappointing - was hoping for at least 10,000 miles. anyone else run these tires on their S yet?

schwett,

What are you going to go with now? Ecsta MX. S-02, Toyo T1-S, RA-1. KD's are are known for better performance and short life.

I replaced my S02s with KDs at 10,000. I too was hoping for a little more wear.

How much time did you spend on the track or autocrossing?

I'd highly suggest the Kumho MX's. Search all the threads on this tire and the majority will say the same. You just can't get a better tire bang for buck - it was even compared against the Pilot Sports and ranked very closely in some aspects. Plus they're a LOT cheaper.

andyp is correct. We did a tire test head to head with the KD, Pilot Sport and Yoko AVS Sport. The MX outperformed all but the KD but they were very similar in handling on the track. While I am not sure how much longer they will last they are about half the price of the KD.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you

jim and andy :

thanks very much for the suggestion. would you consider this tire similar enough that i could replace only my toasted rear KDs with the MXs and not suffer any ill effect?

Nitto's 555 Extreme is similar in wear(maybe even better), and at a very low cost. Not to mention the tread pattern is one of the best looking out there for this car(IMO). I have 235/40 18 in the front, and 265/35 18 in the rear, but most go with 225/40 and 255/35.

I have about 5,000 miles on mine so far, and there is only a very little sign of any wear. These run about $200 for the rears, and only $127 for the front, and you don't have the word "Kumho" written on the side.

By the way, the grip is insane. Not as good in wet conditions.

I ran through a set of rear 245 / 40/ 17 KD's in about 4000 miles of everyday driving along with plenty of twisties and one Auto-X at Mineral Wells. Regardless of how you drive they're not long for this world. The tread depth isn't all that deep to begin with. My fronts were fine but at the time I needed to replace the rears none were available. I replaced all four with Yokohama A-520's until I find my next street tires. I'm still running S02's (stock 16's) for the Auto-X and track although I'm considering the MX and Pilot.

I'd definitely give the MX's a shot, I've run KD's on my other car - definitely my favorite tire, but now that I run aggressive camber, I wanted something cheaper - and the MX's are an EXCELLENT Max performance tire, at an excellent price if one has to replace them often. Can't tell you what they did to get the level of grip for the price - perhaps they get loud as they age. I'll have to see. They're now on both my other car and the S.
