these arent even close to star spec. SS are definitely worth the money probably one of the best street tires you can get

agreed!!!

Z1 Star specs are in an elite group of tires with the ZII, Bridgestone RE-11a, Hankook RS3 and BFG's entry is the Rival - it is not the COMP-2s

I live in mid South Florida where the roads are straight and flat. However, I do have a good number of nice corners to play on during my normal commute (mostly the airport perimeter road and off ramps)

So tire choice can be more modest tires. However, I do want good cornering and feel. Plus I need traction for 400HP. I'm currently running Sumitomo's HTR Z-III's and they are not quite as sticky as I'd like, but not bad either. I would not be unhappy with another set of Z-III's. However, I do have balance issues with them and I'd rather have tires that remain balanced longer. Plus good rain performance is always nice!

Any thoughts? Any reviews?
With a modified S2000 pushing 400 hp, I would probably go with an extreme performance tire. Tirerack ran a test comparing the BF Goodrich g-Force Rivals, Bridgestone RE-11A, Dunlop ZII, and Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R.

Apparently the best tire in the rain of the bunch is the Bridgestone RE-11A, so that is definitely a tire I would consider if you are unhappy with the ZII's. It also has the highest (subjective) rating overall in the category, and leads in the survey results as well for buyers.

If an extreme performance tire still doesn't provide the traction you are looking for, I would consider going with a slightly wider set up as well, though that may limit your tire options.

As to myself, I am currently running Hankook R-S3's in the summer and find them to be very grippy, even in AP1 size.

There is an issue with the ZII's and my use. It rains here in South Florida. Every day. Having driven the Z1's on my turbo Miata, I'd never choose them again for daily driver tires. Not only did they last, maybe 9000 miles, but they were 100% useless in the rain, especially when partially worn.

I love a sticky tire as much as the next guy, but I have to be honest about my needs. Rain performance is one factor, and so is treadwear.

Then I'd still recommend the COMP-2's. As I said, I'm not disputing the fact that they're not as sticky as the StarSpecs or others in the next price bracket, I'm just disputing that the more expensive tires aren't worth the price jump for those of us who have to live in the real world and also deal with rain, cold, treadwear, etc.

Not sure how well they'll handle your 400 BHP, but they'll definitely do better in the rain than more slick tires, and are a lot cheaper to boot. I'd say go with them, then get a good alignment if you don't already have one and you'll probably have a decent compromise of cornering speed and traction in bad weather.
