Default BFG g-force Comp-2's ?

It is about time for tires, and I noticed that Tire Rack has these on sale for a few weeks. $388 for 225/255-17 combo. Not a bad price at all.

I live in mid South Florida where the roads are straight and flat. However, I do have a good number of nice corners to play on during my normal commute (mostly the airport perimeter road and off ramps)

So tire choice can be more modest tires. However, I do want good cornering and feel. Plus I need traction for 400HP. I'm currently running Sumitomo's HTR Z-III's and they are not quite as sticky as I'd like, but not bad either. I would not be unhappy with another set of Z-III's. However, I do have balance issues with them and I'd rather have tires that remain balanced longer. Plus good rain performance is always nice!

Any thoughts? Any reviews?

dont have alot of experience with different tires but I have a set of these now and am happy with them... going with re-11 next as I want more grip but for the price they seemed to do ok. im only at 300whp 235/255... wouldnt say they are crappy or great but like I said I havent had too many tires on this car. I feel they are good for the price!

I run COMP-2's and really love them. They're comparable to the Direzza Z1 Star Specs that are so popular, but perform a lot better in the cold/wet and are a lot cheaper (Star Specs aren't worth the price gap in my opinion).

I'd say go for it. Disclaimer, I've got a set for sale in the Georgia subforums so obviously I'm not going to say anything bad about them (not that there's anything bad to say, I really do love them; bought them again when I got the bigger wheels, hence me selling my old ones).

I have driven both of these tires on my mini and I have driven my friends cr with the comp 2s and my friends ap2 with direzza z1 star specs.

There is not a snow flakes chance in hell that these tires are comparable. The z1 is a far superior PERFORMANCE tire. The z1 is pretty terrible in the rain for a general purpose tire but excellent for an extreme/track tire.

The comp 2 is a decent good looking tire for general purposes but the limit of the tire to which you can push this tire is pretty low.

I attempted a track day on my mini at buttonwillow on these tires and easily overheated these tires. Don't get me wrong it was sort of fun sliding around every corner and people could hear me coming becomes of the tire screech but don't explain to set or approach any personal best times.

The direzza z1 has awesome grip. But it's breakaway point for me is way too sudden...for me.

The z1 is also not going to win any durability contests whereas the bfgs last a long time, if you care about that sort of thing.

I think a better comparison to the comp 2 is the Dunlop z101 if they even still have that tire

+1 with what gptoyz said. I have them on my daily wheels are they are pretty much "meh". Decent middle of the road summer tire performance. I would look at the Potenza RE760 Sport based on what you say you are looking for in the OP. That tire's sidewall characteristics cant be beaten in this particular performance category. The only reason i have these BFG is because i was given half of the set so i bought 2 more to complete the set.

Not sure much of anything short of R compounds is going to contain 400hp with 255 section width.

Damn I forgot about the 400 hp aspect. I dunno if 225/255 is going to contain that monster. That's the e46 m3 stock siZing and that car barely has 333 hp. Hell 225/255 is just barely sufficient for the s2k.

I don't disagree that the starspecs are better, but I don't think they're enough better to justify the price gap. Hence the "comparable". I wouldn't say they were "far superior" just "a little bit superior" at best. Though I'm certainly not an expert. I'm also not speaking from a track/race perspective, but from a daily driver perspective (though I do sometimes take my tires right to the edge of grip).

the star spec is on a whole different level even as a daily driver. even more so when you throw 400hp into the mix.

Ah, I didn't see the 400hp bit; yah, I can definitely see it being worth the money in that case. Otherwise, not so much.
