Default Best Wheels for AP1? Aftermarket OEM AP2 Wheels?

Hey all!

I have an AP1 that's pretty bone-stock aesthetically. As I'm starting to look into the ap1 lip and strakes, I'd really LOVE to do something about these wheels. The AP1 wheels are nice, but the 16" are just too small. Doesn't do the car visual justice imo.

Since OEM AP2 wheels are impossible to find (unless you have a clue...please share), do you have any suggestions on aftermarket wheels that closely resemble the AP2s in size (17"), look, and quality?

If not, anyone have any good AP1 wheel recommendations that worked well for you? Pics if ya got em!

Mita wheels, if you want OEM wheels. They are forged reproductions of the original designs, so better than OEM, but with OEM size specs.

Edit: they're actually wider than the originals.
Front are 8" wide versus 7"
Rear are 9" wide versus 8.5"

There’s reproduction AP2 v1 wheels available online. Mita wheels aren’t bad, but the price is high imho. I’d go for Volks (or similar) for $2500.

Agreed. I'd much rather get a set of Titan7 wheels for $2000 - fully forged in very functional specs (if you're willing to roll fenders).

However, if I was sticking with mostly OEM specs and unwilling to roll fenders, then I'd actually get Mita wheels over Volks (unless I could find a used set for cheap - Volks are far more expensive than $2500).

CE28's were voted the most desirable Volk wheel. Narrowly beating out the TE37. So CE28 get's my vote. It's not like I'm biased or anything.

Volks are @$700 per wheel in 17”. $2800 isn’t much more than $2500, especially when we’re considering Volk over a replica.

OEM AP2-series wheels are available on the used wheel market as are AP2V1 reproductions (often from the same source) which have good reviews here. Google is your friend in this search. The S2000 is a niche car with almost unique wheel specifications so there are few aftermarket wheels and it may take a while to get all four wheels. They occasionally show up here -- there was a set (with useless tires) here a couple of weeks ago -- and I bought and then sold a set here a few years ago.

Just gotta buy what you can when you can -- you'll eventually get all four. These really update the look of the car and there are more tire options for 17" summer tires.

Great looking wheels here. I was about to type a reply when you first responded about the widths, and then you edited your response. Thanks for the clarification. I'm assuming I would not need to roll my fenders or make any other adjustments if I get the Mita's then, correct? Anyone have pics with these wheels on? Wonder how their light chrome/silver matches the OEM.

Certainly will look into the Volks also. Thank you!!! Personally, I'd like to stay as close if not mimic OEM specs. I don't intend on rolling the fenders or lowering the car. Essentially, I'd like this as an upgrade I can make but revert back to complete stock at any point if desired. Keeping the AP1 wheels!

Dude that is a BEAUT. Not a CR though right...just CR lip, skirts and wing? Would love to do that to my AP1 but I'd need an AP2 front bumper and all that...

If you just want an aesthetic and small performance boost I'd just stick with OEM/replica wheels and get a decent summer tire, doesn't have to be super pointy end 200 TW tires. These days there are starting be more aftermarket options again but it's still kind of a mixed bag, especially if you don't want to modify fenders. Our offsets are some what niche and even with rolled fenders it's hard to fit some of the more common low (think +30s) offset wheels. If Mita Wheels were around back in the day when I first got my car I probably would have gotten them and avoided a fender roll. Yes they're a bit of cash but honestly I think they look better than fender safe Enkei and TSW options at this moment and full forged construction is always nice.

Personally my all time favorite wheels for this car are Volk ZE40s. But unfortunately the fender safe fitment is uggo and the unicorn 17x9.5+47 spec wheel is no longer available which makes me big sad. So I opted for Titan 7 TR10s which are totally in no way inspired by ZE40s.

Also, I'll never miss an excuse to ho around my car.

Not very many options for Volks anymore in non-fender rolling offsets. This is the closest I found. If OP wants a square fitment, the 17x9 +63s will work. If he wants to stagger, that +48 with 7.5 up front will be a cautiously tight fit.

Anyway, A square set is just under $3000.

The more "expensive" options i've always looked at for Volks were in 9.5 and 10 widths and were normally $3200-$3400 for a set.

If resale is a concern - get the Volks. For the intended purposes of OEM+ look, I'd get the Mita wheels. For my own purposes, I'd get neither - Titant7 R10 in 17x9.5 +51 is the wheel for me.

Evasive motorsports prices and options below.
