Default ap2 rims on ap1

Almost finalized on a deal to purchase ap2 rims so I can install them on my ap1. Ive read conflicting info about the ap2 rims on the ap1.

Billman250 once wrote that the car handled horrible after he installed ap2 rims on his ap1 and then ended up selling the ap2 rims he picked up.

Others report they dont see the difference in weight for the rear and the bracking, acceleration is the same.

Can anyone give me a str8 answer on this topic. Would the ap2 rims on the ap1 affect handling, performance, etc.

Thanks for any input.'

i saw a test they performed when they put the AP2 wheels on an AP1 and it was faster around the track.

From someone who just did this:

Using OEM RE050's, steering was heavier, acceleration was hampered, braking was more difficult, and the car felt like a slug in comparison to AP1 16" rims.

I'd imagine the track time improvement was due to the shorter sidewalls of the 17" tire.

I hated having AP2 rims on my AP1. AP2 rims are about the same weight as AP1's, but that weight is further out from the center of mass, resulting in more of a fight against inertia.

Your 0-60 as well as 60-0 times will suffer, as will your mpg...if you care about mpg, that is.

If you can find tires that weigh less than the stock S02 (or even RE050)...it will reduce the negative effects Syncho mentions, but not eliminate. The best alternative is to find light weight 17" rims.

i also just did this. my car feels a bit more sluggish from a standstill, but that's really the only negative feeling i get from it. i don't notice any difference in braking (not saying it isn't there, i just don't notice it), and the car handles better IMO because i am able to run wider tires. plus it looks hot!!

edit: fuel economy did suffer too, to the tune of about 9%

really, I didnt expect fuel economy to go down like that. I kinda figured it would be a bit slower with the acceleration.

So the best thing would be to get aftermarket rims either 16 or 17 which are lighter than stock.

Are their any good rims under 1000 which are lighter than stock..

I bought AP2 wheels for my AP1 recently and noticed it's a bit more sluggish as people have mentioned, but mine have 255 run-flats on the rear
I planned on putting 235's or 245's re050's on the rear to save some weight, but I have been researching tire weights and it seems the Kumho MX's are MUCH lighter than most other tires, a 245-40 RE050 weighs 27lbs. where the MX only weighs 23lbs.
Not sure I want to run the Kumho's though, never have been a huge fan of them.

Any 17" wheel you get and slap a meaty 245 or 255 tire on is going to feel slower than the stock 16's w/ a 225, there's no way around it.

Not exactly...

I've got 17's on my AP1 right now and they actually feel even better. Granted, these rims are several pounds lighter than stock, but I'm seeing improved mileage, improved acceleration, and improved cornering. It's all about weight management.

There are lots of 17" wheels that are lighter than stock, some of which are rather inexpensive. The only drawback (from my POV) is that they are all 6+ spoke wagon wheels (so are AP2 OEM wheels though).

There are many options out there, and AP2 wheels are not one of the better ones. Much better wheels are available for quite decent prices.

What are the cheapest 16" and 17" rims around which are lower in weight. I saw some volks 16" that weighed 11.? pounds but wasn't sure how much they cost.

Thanks
