Ap1 track tires needed
I have a spare set of ap1's and would like to have track tires. I have never autocrossed but would like to, and i track day with PBOC. If i autocross and i run r comps does that move me to a higher class? What tire is best for both track day and autocross? I like the toyo ra1's for track days but don't want to shave them, seems like a waste of money hacking off tread! I am back on two wheels now so my s2000 gets used only on rainy days. I am going to Sebring in 2 weeks so what to buy? Thanks for the help.

Are the new R1s now legal in stock class?
To the OP: if you've never autoxed before, get some experience on street tires before switching to r-comps. R-compounds hide mistakes. Street tires will force you to learn to be smooth with your inputs. Once you can get the most performance out of your street tires, then step up to r-comps. Back when I used to instruct, I would tell students to learn to go fast slowly...going right off the bat and increasing your car's capacity to go faster does not change your capability. Work on your capability first.
But...to answer your question, you need to give a little more info. Are you planning to run in stock class (does your car meet the stock class rules)? There really is not a good compromise for autox and track if you are looking for the best in both. But the old Khumo VictorRacers v700 probably come pretty close though...they aren't in the same league at the Hoosier or Khumo v710 and they won't last like Toyo or Yoks...but they are decent.
