I put on a set of Yoko EVS 100's about 7500 miles ago. My car is a daily driver-I dont autocross or track my car. I drive 35 miles round trip every day. I live in an area that gets alot of rain during the summer. These tires are the BEST that I've ever had. Granted, when I purchased my car, I had the S-02's on and the treadwear wasnt the best-but these tires are the quietest, best in rain etc that I've experienced. Of course, if I wanted a track tire, I would look someplace else. I spent approx $500 for 4 tires-and it has been a great choice for me.

 

I agree with you, Dave. For what you are using them for, they are ideal. But I must ask, did you have those mounted on stock rims? I paid $342 for replacement sizes from Jim@TireRack plus $80 to mount and balance. You can't beat Jim's prices on 'em.

BTW, try to stay safe and dry down there. My mother lives in Tampa and fortunate that Charlie missed them. Not so lucky for others.

 

I put them on stock rims. 225/55 frt, 245/50 rears.
They are a little taller than I wanted but thats what the dealer had in stock. It would have been 5 days or so to ship the ones that I wanted but, as I said, my car is a daily driver and my O2's were showing cords front & rear. So I made the choice to buy those. I paid a little over $500 for all 4 tires, mounting, balancing, alignment (my rears were way out of spec-the insides of the O2's had the most cord showing) etc.
After 7500 miles, a trip to OK from New Orleans in a tremendous downpour-I have had zero complaints about the Yoko's. These are probably the BEST tires to have if your car is a daily driver.

 

ES100s are good for wet weather. I don't mind them. I drive my car fairly hard though, and unless you like to go sideways (I do, but not everytime the car wants to.) you may want something a bit softer... treadwear isn't that great in my opinion, but I am pretty sure it's because of how I drive... Toyos are great, I'm not an S03 fan, and I can't afford to replace Advans with how quickly I go through rears. It's all about what you want them for... and if you have a second set of rims with track tires already mounted...

 

I wouldn't go that far. There is a difference between commuter and daily driver.


I wish I could drudge up a thread about this very subject- this model tire. Folks actually agreed on one point. These tires do not last that much longer than softer tires when the alignment is on the stronger half of OEM specs. Dave, you included in your second post that you also had an alignment. It's amazing how many folks do not do this. Folks should have an alignment, at minimum, when replacing tires. If you're doing any driving that utilizes the vehicle's capabilities, it could be more often than that.

Personally, I found what V-AP1 said to be true of 100's. I got to practice lots of countersteering. At first it was cool, but it got old quickly.

 

I am in the market to get some new ones and was doing some research and saw this thread and I could not have said the above quote better myself They do wear nice, but as far as "grip", its not there, I feel like I slide sometimes when I go faster than I should around a tight corner and others that have driven my car say the same thing. I think I am going to try some Kumos next, the guys I know who have them on their car like them. I would get the SO2's again, but they dont come in 17"

ES100s are great for the price. 52k miles on a 2002 and they're a great all around tire. Excellent wet weather traction and pretty good dry. SO2s just want to go bald,really fast IMO. It's a great commuter tire, especially if you don't want to sacrifice all of the fun.

Put it this way, you'd rather be riding on Yokos than Falkens or Hankooks.

 

I bought my car with a brand new set of ES100s and they're a pretty good rain tire but not a great performance tire or anything. I'll be switching to some Kumho MXs in the rear soon.

 

I'll agree on the Hanooks, and especially Nankang (sp?), but Falken makes some decent tires... personally, if I wasn't dealing with Toyo, I'd run the Yoko AVS Sports... great tire IMO, stickier then the ES100s, and the treadlife is a bit longer then the stock S02s... They don't break the bank either in comparison to some of the other alternatives... Screw it, buy some P-Zeros....

 

Hey, I'm a Democrat and I don't like them very much. I'm currently using the ES100. It's fair to say that they are very nice for the price, but not as grippy as the much more expensive S02 and S03. However, imo, they still handle very good and have decent traction. On wet, I say they are pretty good, for a performance tire.

Overall, I say they are good for the price.
