Was wanting to hear some opinions on these tires on S2000's. Would like to hear the good and bad if anyone feels like sharing. Treadwear, dry handling, etc. How do they compare to S-02's and S-03's...?

The don't compare. They do ride a bit nicer and wear a bit longer, however. Good tires for cruising around, but they take a bit of fun out of spirited driving.

 

I am on my 2nd set of rears, only since I don't want to mismatch tires. I would not recommend these tires to anyone else. I wanted to cut corners and save on tires, and I am sorry I did. The S-02's were soo much better. They only thing I really like about these tires is the wet weather handling. Other than that, they don't grip as good and are very loud! Just my $.02 though.

 

I have to say, "Ditto."

Some folks like the ES100's- probably Democrats. They turn your sportscar into a Civic. I also had the Yoko AVS Sports on my ProDrives as they came together when I purchased them used. The AVS's were better, but not by enough that I would ever recommend them. The tread pattern was pretty cool though. I also adjusted alignment to "help" but to no avail, the ES100's were that bad.

ES100's, Escta 712's, etc. are all basically the same- commuter tires. Now, if that's what you're looking for, then they will fit the bill. If you drive 50% leisurely and 50% of the time enthusiastically, you would be very disappointed, especially coming from S-02's. Right now, I'm running Toyo T1's for daily driving. And although I like my street Toyo's(love my shaved RA'-1's for the track), they still are no S-02.


On another note, Jim is good to go as far as the service I have received from him.

 

I think the ES-100s are a excellent tire for the price and and a great tire overall. The comments above are borderline hyperbole. I have driven on everything from Toyo T-1s (sloppy turn-in) FZ4s (came on the car), B'stones S02s and 3s, Kumhos V700 and Victoracers, Falken Azeni, and Hoosiers A3S03s. The ES100s are predictable and cheap. If you want the best tire and money is no object i.e. you can buy tires every couple of months, go with DOT R compounds. If you are on a budget, try S02s. The difference between S02s and ES-100s are not as great as the difference between r compounds and S02s. Either way do the price vs. reward calculations for what you need/want.

I didn't see where he asked for a comparison to R-compounds. Besides, the only people that would need those for the street would be FI guys/gals.

For where and how I drive, the Yucka ES-100's don't do it for me. He asked for an opinion- I gave one. Most folks that are asking about tires like these do not consider S-02's to be "budget" tires. They consider the OEM replacements to be expensive for their relative (lack of)longevity.

I have over 48,000 miles on my baby in 25 months. I've been through a few tires myself, but in no way am I an expert. I just know what I like. And don't.

 

I agree that opinions are varied, and I am a fan of the ES-100s- esp. for the price. The S02s are great but for half the price you can get a tire that offers 85-90% of the performance. The difference between an S02 and a ES-100 is not as great as a performance and commuter tire.

 

If I remember correctly, you have to drive a spell before encountering any "fun" roads being from Oceanside? My wife graduated high school there; even helped Junior Seau with his math. I could be wrong as I never lived there, but I used to ride my motorcycle in the mountains near Alpine.

 

I myself wasnt pleased with the ES100's on the performance aspects but you get what you pay for. The tires are loud but that doesnt bother me, what bothered me was how the tires would follow the grooves on the road. IT was BAD, I would have to hold the steering wheel with a firm grip on the highways since I was afraid the grooves would stear me into a median. Oh well I switched to Kuhmo MX's and IMO they are worth the extra $.

 

Many owners in my area run MX's and love them. I personally have not tried them.
