I had 17x8 with 245/40 and 225/45 rear and front respectively and had no problems at all....offsets were not exact, so they kinda stuck out about 1/4 inch or less from the fenders....I kinda liked it though....looked meaner!

You had best check the specs of the tires you want and see if the 7" rim is wide enough for a 235/45/17. Most fit on 7.5" to 9" wide rims, and are tested and spec'd on 8" wide rims.

No need to call anyone. Trust me, a 235/40/17 tire will not fit properly on a
7-inch wheel. Good grief fellas, it's normal measuring width is 8-inches which means
even if you were hell-bent on doing it, you've removed nearly half an inch of the
tire's tread width. What on god's earth would be the point of buying a 235mm tire
and ill-fitting it on a 7-inch wheel, only to make it a 225 when you get put a 225
tire on a 7-inch wheel (225/45/17) and have it fit properly.
