Another look at All Season
To Jim and all -
Currently have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on the car and they will soon need replacement. As this is a daily driver, sometimes in colder temperatures, I need an all-season tire. I have good snow tires on spare wheels to put on as necessary. We can also get some really heavy rains at times.
Anyway, I am considering getting more Pilot Sport A/Pirreli, but also looking at Perelli Nero Zero's. From what I remember, Jim @ Tire Rack seems to like Dunlop SP5000's. The thing I like about the Pilot's is that they have excellent wet traction, but they are also the most expensive.
I have read many, many posts on A/S tires but seen little or no mention of the Pilots and a few of the Nero Zero's. I've already burned through sets of the performance tires but their abilities tend to fail in cold and wet conditions.
Jim, if you get a chance, I'd be interested in your opinion on these 3 and any other A/S tire that would be good for a 2002 S2000.
Any other thoughts are appreciated also.
Thanks much.

'02 camry??? what does that have to do with S2000?
Perelli Nero seems to have a good reputation around here.

If what you are interested in is better wet performance, I'd suggest looking at the Eagle F1. Unlike a lot of summer tires, which are primarily optimized for dry performance, the Eagle F1 is basically a rain tire. You might want to take a look at the customer ratings in this comparison of the Eagle F1, your Michelin Pilot Sports, and the Pirelli PZero Nero:
Tire rack comparison
The F1s are about equal to the Michelins in handling and dry traction, and are 'way ahead in wet traction and have a better treadwear rating. The Pirellis are a bit behind the two summer tires in handling, probably because they compromise a bit to get acceptable snow traction, but they have the best tread wear rating.
I can confirm from personal experience that the Goodyears are terrific in the wet, and fine on dry roads at all temperatures - much better than all season tires. Like all summer tires, they suck in the snow, but that's what you've got the snow tires for.

As far as I've learned from this board, only the sp5000 comes in the most correct size of 245/45/16 if you want a/s. there is not another a/s tire available that has this size. so you may have to compromise and get summer tires that have a good wet weather rating as well. or else stick with 225/50/16 which is apparently narrower than you should be wanting.

Dunlop list the 245/45R16 but have not made the tire in about 9 months. It was a good tire for the car. I would say the three best would be the Pirelli P Zero Nero M/S, Pilot Sport A/S and the Yokohama AVS DB S2. All of these tires are good handling all season tires. They will wear better than a performance tire but they will not performa as well in wet or dry as a summer performance tire.
