Alignment with old tires

Alignment with old tires
Background: My alignment is pretty bad right now and my rears still have over 2/32 tread left (17k miles AP2 stock tires) at the lowest section - the penny test shows the top of Lincoln's head is still touched by the tread. My guess is that I am at 3/32 or 4/32.
Question: I want my car aligned but don't want to replace my rears yet. The car is not driven on the rain so I can probably get a couple thousand more miles on it. I know it is recommended to do an alignment after purchasing new tires so my question is, if I get the car aligned now and find that I need to replace my rears soon, should I get it re-aligned after purchasing new rears even if I don't notice it needing new alignment (again)?

New tires and/or wheels does not affect alignment. I.e., no need to redo the alignment.

Watch out large chain stores like bigotires or bridgestone always try to up sell by telling you its a must. But i have even switched to new wheels/tires and alignment settings held just fine.
