Aftermarket wheels vs Refurb OEM
Hey guys,
I recently got a 03 s2k and am looking at changing / updating the wheels as they are a little worn in places.
What are your opinions on whether refurbing the OEM wheels or getting aftermarket wheels is better?
From my research it seems lots of people say that aftermarket wheels actually decrease resale value as well as obviously being a huge payment for the wheels and tyres themselves. I'm loking at possibly upping the rim size to 18's (something lightweight like Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2). Does this make a massive difference?
Alternatively (and much cheaper) is to get the current AP1 16" wheels refurbed. This is looking the more likely to be honest and if so, what are people's opinions on changing the colour of the OEM wheels?? (I love black alloys, and my s2k is in Silverstone silver with red/black interior so I think black wheels will look sexy!)
Thanks for your opinions

I would recommend either buying refurbished wheels and selling the old ones as-is - OR - purchasing used set wheels (OEM or aftermarket). Having a set of AP1 wheels refurbished is going to be expensive and just doesn't make good financial sense, IMO.
If you'd like to stick to OEM, this would be a good time to buy a set of 17" AP2 wheels for a nice upgrade for relatively little money. For a LOT more money you could buy a set of aftermarket 18" wheels. It's really a personal decision based on what you'd like to accomplish with your car and what your budget is.

If you get aftermarket wheels, keep your stock ones. When you want to sell the car, put the stock wheels back on and sell the aftermarket wheels separately. That would give you the biggest return.
IMO the best upgrade you can make is some OEM 17" wheels that came on 04+. Unlike most sftermarket wheels, they will fit without any fender work. It's an easy bolt on that will make the car look much better, even at stock height.
Personally, not a fan of painting stock wheels black but that is your call.
