Adjusting Tire Pressures
I like to get out to track days at race tracks several times during the dry summer and fall. I have a pyrometer to measure the heat in my tire tread, but I'm not sure how much I should be adjusting tire pressures based on the tire tread temps. Does anyone have successful experience making such adjustments?
For the front tires, I have found that the center tread temp is higher than the inside tread temp and quite a lot higher than the outside tread temp. For computer racing sims, I generally try to get the center tire temp to be just a little higher than the outside and inside, but in real life, I'm not sure I should be messing with lowering the tire pressures much.
I have heard others who have found a tire pressure at which their tires seem to work best at the track. In my case, I have heard that the S03's work well at a hot tire temp of 42psi on the track.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
