We've been pretty impressed with the RE-11A that we've been testing on behalf of Bridgestone. I feel they are better than the old Z1, but it's been a full winter since I drove on the Z1s. I've yet to drive on the ZIIs yet. The day I put the RE-11A on, I drove 600 + miles from TN, so any mold release that was on would have been well gone by then.
The drive to TN was pretty rough though - it rained 9.5 of the 10 hours, and probably half the time it was raining, it was a torrential downpour. They tires did great in the wet and really helped make the drive a lot less stressful.
On track, the RE-11A seem to be pretty fast. I was 2.2 seconds slower in My FR-S on RE-11A than I was last year in my S2000 on Conti Slicks on Autobahn South. The car is very, very planted, and the tires loved heat. The lap times kept coming down and down as I got more laps on them in the session (granted, that may have more due to tire size than compound). We're going to do a comparision between a 225/45/17 all around, and a 255/40/17 all around on the car in the coming weeks, to try and get some good reference as to what tire size is best to run on the FR-S.
I dont think you can go wrong with either tire. The RE-11A will likely ride better and be better for daily driving because of ride comfort. It can also be put on the left or right side of the vehicle without dismounting - great for evening tire wear at tracks that tend to wear one side more than the other.
I think now that Bridgestone has lowered the price on the RE-11A, its going to draw a lot more attention in the marketplace.

I have taked to one of the guys here who has driven both of them and he thinks that the ZII is going to be the better handling tire in the dry. The RE11A I think will be better in the wet and better ride quality including noise. We will be testing all of the new Extreme Performance tires sometime in May.
If I can help let me know.

IMO, they are better than Z1 ss and AD08 and ive seen many reviews stating ey have better grip than the re-11. Would love to know how they compare to ad08r, re11a, z2 and rival.
I understand you guys have been using these in a 265/35/18 on an 18x10.5, right? How much does your S2000 weigh?

Sorry, I missed this. 2650 now, pulling another 100 out in the near future.. URGE

I got the ZII's about a month ago and have been really impressed with them so far. ~1,000 miles on them. Very confident when cornering hard and haven't noticed any excessive road noise so far. I saw somewhere they had a wear rating of 200, but i could be wrong. Interested in seeing how they wear through the "spirited" summer driving.

But wouldn't the tread then be pointing the wrong direction? If so, that would effect wet weather handling. But how about dry?

Directional tires can be run backwards in the dry with absolutely zero difference in performance. I don't believe there is that big of a difference in wet performance when they are run backwards in the wet too.
