215/ 45 & 245/ 40 vs. 225/45 & 255/ 40
Hey guys, im planning on getting a set of Kumho Ecsta MX soon. I was wondering if there were any pros or cons in switching from the stock size 215/ 45 & 245/ 40 tires to a set of 225/45 & 255/ 40 tires. Logically there would be a slightly bigger contact patch i assume. Any insight on this? Keeping in mind that I will be running these at Willow springs. Thanks

255/40/17 is slightly taller than a 245/40/17. Your speedo will be slightly off at higher speeds (minimally). A wider tire in front can slightly reduce your steering feel, and at times "track" more on uneven roads.
I'd stick with the stock sizes.

the thing i notices about stock ap2 tires are that the front tires tread is narrower than every other 215.45.17 tires. so unless you're gonna be using the stock re050 tires the 215.45.17 front tires will always be wider than stock. similar to the ap1 the rear size on the so2's are a bit wider than aftermarket tires that is why ap1 owners choose a tire size 245.45.16.
i think to keep the correct ratio of staggared for ap2 you should use a tire size of 215.45.17 F and 255.40.17 R this is only if you are using non oem tires. that is my .02

be very careful if you want go wider in front, not sure if 215 to 225 in front will have any negative impact on s2k. I had a bad experience of upsizing from 235/45/17 to 245/45/17 on my Audi A4, the steering felt very heavy after the change. I don't think 255 for rear will have any negative impact, but 225 or wider in front might.
Just my .02.

the 215f and 255r sounds interesting. anyone have this setup?
im thinking it may induce more understeer...more rear grip and the same amt of front grip? could be wrong..

The stock RE050 front tires are narrow for 215's. The contact patch is actually similar to a 205 tire. So, going with a non-OEM 215 is actually a step up. Stagger should remain the same as stock with a non-OEM 215/255 combo. Although all of this depends on the tire manufacturer. Look at contact patches when comparing staggers. The 215 or 225 number doesn't really mean a whole lot.
