2004/5 S2000 Tire Replacements
I have sifted through 60 forum pages to try to decide what tires to consider when replacing my RE 050's on my 04 S2k. I have also looked online at tirerack and other websites for more information.
I wanted to get input from drivers who have replaced their 04/05 17" tires. From what I have seen, the 16" on the 2003- are pretty different and I imagine the certain tires might be good for that car and not very good for the 17".
I am a weekend warrior that wants to try to get into the occasional auto cross. I was able to get 20k miles out of my first set of RE 050's so I imagine I don't drive overly hard on them.
Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with non-OEM tires for the 17" 2004+ rims?
I was wondering if anyone has tried the Goodyear Eagle F1 tires on an 2004+ S2k?
Thanks in advance for your time and input!

I use Dunlop SP Sportmaxx which I put my thoughts down on here.
I am going to get about 8-9K miles out of them which is an improvement for me over the rear RE050s which only lasted 4.5K miles. I must therefore push tyres hard although I don't launch, donut or track the car.
7K miles into the Dunlops, they have good dry grip (not as outright grippy as the 050 but they communicate better at their limit I feel, excellent wet weather, nice stiff sidewalls.) I will be sticking with them as I need the blend of dry and wet weather here as it is not snowy enough to justify winter tyres which are relatively difficult to get in 04 sizes here.
Toyos T1-Rs are very popular here in UK.

I current have a second set of stock 05 wheels that I mounted Falken RT-615's
This is going to be my drive to the event autocross tire, for AS.
The size is 225/45/55 Front and 255/40/17 Rear.
I have only driven on them for a couple of hours of spirited driving and so far I am very happy.
Here are my observations:
* They stick significantly better than the stock Bridgestone tires, cornering speeds are greater.
* Braking is much improved, having the stickier rubber and more contact patch on the front I believe is the reason.
* Transition is as good or better than stock tires.
* You will notice a slight difference in acceleration. The taller tires and more weight are the negative. However, the gearing could help in autocross where you can rap out second gear to a little more speed.
* They do have some noise and a bit rough ride.
* Reports from other autocrossers is that the RT-615 can win against R-compound tires in autocross. But not likely if the other driver is very good and on new R-compound.
Good Luck

i just got pirelli pzero-nero tires, and 225 in the front(wider). i love this setup, after 19,000 on the bridgestones i deceided to change them out, although i guess i could have gotten another 2k out of them. i just took a fully loaded car trip with passenger up to truckee from sf, about 225miles of mountain road, altitude and freeway driving...these tires are more quiet, handle the road changes better (very minimal rear hop over uneven surfaces), the car has new levels of grip...i would buy them again..and yes they are expensive, more so that other tires i could have gotten, but well...well...worth it.
