18" wheel offset

18" wheel offset
i am looking at a set of wheels in the classified that are 18x7.5 +45 and 18x8 +42. i just did the math, and it looks like the front will fit with no issue, but the rear has nearly an inch and a 1/4 less backspace and will protrude and inch further on the outside of the hub. doesn't seem to be the optimum, but will it work?
i am looking for other people's experiences on this offset in the rear. has anyone run it and not had any rubbing issues? my car is at stock ride height, with zero plans of lowering. i would like to fit these with no modification, is this possible? thanks for any helpful info.
wheel specs:
oem front- 17x7 +55 (5.62 backspace, 1.338 frontspace)
aftermarket- 18x7.5 +45 (5.52 backspace, 1.97 frontspace)
oem rear- 17x8.5 +65 (6.80 backspace, 1.65 frontspace)
aftermarket- 18x8 +42 (5.64 backspace, 2.34 frontspace)

I've never used a +42 rear wheel so I can't comment.. It might work, but I would think it would be far from optimum..
Check the tire and wheel forum... Jim@Tirerack can probably shed some more insight on this as well as other posters in there.
(off curiousity, what made you look into a +42 rear offset wheel?)

regarding the +42, i am looking into used wheels, and they just so happen to be that offset. it is purely a bling thing, as my wife likes them (and it is "her" car....)

18x7.5 +45, CLEARED
Rubber to slot in: 215/40R18
The top left is the stock position showing the fender and rim without lowering.. top right is how much the entire diameter has increased.
Oh the red portions are those that has increased from stock size.
Bottom shows the protrusion compare to stock and how much gap from the fender.
Oh, the only fix positions are the fender and the offset plane.

Here's the rear:
I will say, yes it will clear but not anything above 225 rubber and stick to profile 35%. i.e. 225/35/R18.
But this is actually downsizing, narrower tires although you push the rear track wider with a 42mm offset. It is just weird. And you will need a slightly aggressive camber than stock..
From what I did to mine, if you lower an inch, the camber increase a little and it will sit inside actually and probably won't rub..
