Default 17x8.5 or 9 or 9.5 ....nvm 9.5 spoon cr93 or 10in f14 or 10in 6ul

After thinking about it for 3 months I've changed my mind and don't want to spend 1800+ on wheels for something I'll beat up.
So I'm deciding between used prodrive 17x8.5 or 17x10 forgestar f14 offset 50 wheels.

Still going to run 255 rear and 245-255 in the front.

Hello everyone, I'm trying to decide on a wider wheel width. Currently I'm running 17x8 (15.2lbs) with a 245 up front and 255 in the rear. I want to keep a Staggered tire fitment with a non-staggered wheels. I mostly street drive with some track sessions. I want to get more out of the 245/255 tire setup.

I don't know if the extra width is worth the weight from 8.5 to 9.5 or if I'd even notice the difference. All the wheels I'm considering are in the 15-17lbs range.

I'm just looking for some input.

If I go 8.5in I'll probally buy prodrive wheels
9 or 9.5 would be enkei or advan wheels

I already know the offset range I need/will be running

Thanks for any input.

You could four OEM AP2 rear wheels I believe if you had two of the rears bored. That is just wide enough to accommodate the 255 in the rear, and it is designed specifically for the 245 which you'd now have up front. In fact I believe the CR runs with 8.5" wheels in the rear, and it came from the factory with rear 255 extreme performance tires.

Otherwise, I'd run a 9.0" inch wheel all the way around, that should be fine for both the 245/255. 9.5" could work too, but the extra .5" of width is unnecessary for that setup. Just keep in mind the offsets are very important, the S2000 requires higher offsets than what many/most aftermarket wheels provide without fender modification. If we are both thinking of the same prodrive wheels that is a good setup, both in looks, size, and offset. Definitely a little on the spendy side compared to OEM wheels, but good aftermarket wheels generally are.

thank you for the input. I have already done front and rear body work, I already know the range of offsets that I would/need to run to clear my custom bbk and such.

I was kind of thinking that the 9.5 would be unnecessary. Thanks for the confirmation of that.

A 255 tire gets progressively faster as you move from a 8" to 9" to 10" wheel. I would go with as wide as possible, within reason of course, which means 9.5". You could also do a 9" front, 9.5" stagger since your tires are staggered.

^agreed. You are taking full advantage of the tire with the wider wheel and the sidewall is stiffer instead of being pinched. Of coarse with wheels there is the look of them that matter as well so I'd say find the wheel you like the best in the widest width you can fit and go with that. All the brands you stated are all quality wheels so really any will be a fine choice.

So your saying the minimal added weight is worth it's weight in gains of overall grip. I forgot to mention I run rs3 tires.
I guess it boils down to do I want prodrive gc-07c in 8.5 like I've always wanted or go with some advan rs or rg2 in 9.5. I really wish the prodrives came in 9in, if that was the case we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Thanks again for the insights

9.5" if staggered 245/255 tires. If 255 all the way around then 10" will offer you the best tire profile and contact patch.

Stock 8.5" is the min required. Wider is better in overall performance, even at the cost of some weight. Stock wheels are not light. More times then not you can maximize the wheel size advantage and still stay under or close to stock weight. But overall wheel weight shows to have less effect on overall performance then the added handing precision and grip the proper max wide/tire width pairing offers.

I would not run stock wheels, it is not an option, if I were to run 8.5in they would be prodrive gc-07c.

The prodrives are very nice wheels but really all you would gain is they are lighter and they look different. With the wider wheel you are actually gaining grip and performance over the 8.5 inch wide prodrives but if those are what speak to you then go for it. Gotuning has a set for sale right now that look very nice.
