17x8.5/17x9.5 track setup - ideal offsets?
I am looking to fit some big rubber under my car for track duty and for putting the power down when I go FI. I am trying to determine what offsets will be ideal for 17x8.5 front, 17x9.5 rear wheels and fitting something like a 235 front, 275 rear tire setup.
Does anyone have suggestions? The car is an AP1 with stock suspension. At a minimum, I want to comfortably fit a 255/40 rear tire without doing any fender modifications. As I add suspension and squeeze more rubber under there (275) I can roll the fenders as needed, but would like a setup that fits the car initially at stock height.
I have read the FAQ and wheel fitment guide as well as a bunch of threads. I am thinking about a 17x8.5 +58 and a 17x9.5 +63, or something in that range.
If you could pick ANY offset in these wheel sizes, what would you choose?

The higher the offset the better for fitting wider tires on the car. I am not sure why you would need a 275/40R17 on the stock car. I guess I could see that size if you have engine mods and are turning higher horsepower. Otherwise stay with the 255/40R17 with the shorter diameter and less unsprung weight.
If I can help let me know.

I will be running the 255 initially, with an upgrade to a 275 as needed with a FI setup. I would like to buy the wheels only once, however!
How "high" of an offset is ideal? That is my question... I don't want to be rubbing control arms or having fitment issues on the inside of the wheel either.

I would ask the peeps at 949 forum.IIRC a 17x9 +63 255/40 front at full lock will rub slightly but lots of track junkies run them all 4 corners. Also,I've heard if u're going to run a 275 R, u should run a 245 F or u'll get push understeer. Here's the thing:275 and u'll have a heavier tire and a diameter over 25" which will compromise the gearing.I'm guessing the tail feels a lil too happy? Once the tires are at optimum temperature and u figure out the ideal tire pressures the differnence in grip is night and day.IMO no need for big rubber a 235/255-215/245-225/245 all work. The offsets u posted look fine to me but if u have a BBK in your future u'll want to make sure they'll clear and different brands have better clearance regardless of the offsets.Hot tip, when 949 starts making the 6ULR wheels that will be the stuff, check'm out

Thanks FastJack.
Does anyone else have suggestions for offsets on a staggered setup with 8.5" front and 9.5" rear wheels?
Again, if you could choose ANY offset in these sizes, what would you choose in terms of perfect fitment? By perfect fitment, I mean fits the car's fenders and suspension. I am not concerned with the "flush" look or the bling!

Anyone? We could be waiting another year for 949 to make those wheels, first it was summer 09, now it is sometime this winter...
It seems out options for wide rims are incredibly limited with this car due to the high offsets.

I just put a set of Volk ce28n`s on my car today. 17x9 +63 all around. 235 40 on the front and 275 40 nitto nt05 on the rear. Lowered on pss9 one finger gap. The rear fenders were rolled and bumper tab relocated. STOCK alignment and not even close to rubbing. Hope this helps...
Also, stock ap2v1 fronts with falken 215 40`s weigh 40.2lbs
17x9 ce28n with nitto nt05 235 40`s weigh 39.2lbs
stock rears with 245 40 falkens weigh 44lbs
17x9 ce28n with 275 40 nittos weigh 44.2lbs

with a 8.5 front... I would run a 50-55mm offset to minimize the chance of rubbing
with a 9.5 I would say 60-65 and you would be safe...65 being the safer of the 2
I had the common 17/8 17/9 Enkei set up... +45 all around
rubbed the rear even with a roll and relocate on the EURO Spec Alignment
fronts were never an issue
