10" rears
I hope this isnt some question that every newbie comes on here and asks, but i have got to ask it. I am looking to purchase some wheels in the next couple of months here. It is a street car that will be occasionally used for the track(probably a good 5 times a year if not a couple more). I really LOVE the look of a nice staggered wheel set with a nice offset. The wheels I want are Volk VS-XX 17"x8" front and 17"x10" rear with a 3.5" lip in the rear. Now, how is this going to affect me?
I am pretty sold on these wheels, but am very curiosu as to how a setup like this will handle. I know I am going to need some nice camber(someone mentioned -2front/-3.5 rear) In my mind, that is insane! This also includes possibly some stretched tires. I belive he said a 225 width rear. I will eventually drop the car on some nice coilovers, leaning towards the FLEX's as of right now.
Am I considerably reducing my handling possibilites?
Am I actually making my handling increase with a setup like this?
If I REALLY have to, I can always go buy a cheaper second set of wheels to throw some R compound rubber on. But for now I want to know how this is going to be as a street/track car...any help is GREATLY appreciated. thanks in advance!

225 rear is < stock...
Get some non-bling wheels. A big lip does nothing for performance and these wheels aren't exactly lightweight.
Flex are entry level performance...got for KW V3s for around the same price.
If you are set on these wheels, get a spare set of ap1s with 225/245 r-cpds.

Myself, I wouldn't touch that wheel-tire combo on the street OR the track. But it will look nice parked in front of the Starbucks. If you are serious about track days, I'd rethink the wheel offset.

Honestly, this isn't a setup I would enjoy to track... too much excitement for me. I like driving big tire stagger on a stock suspension S2000: +40mm difference is where the car really starts to stabilize when rotating and tames the snap oversteer at the limit. My current 16" street setup is 205/245 and it's very balanced.

bky: I don't know a lot about our wheels/tire combos and I"m sure 225s are too small for rear rubber, but it seemed to me like the OP was really asking about the 17x8 + 17x10 rims and if they would work. He then said someone suggested 225s on the rear, but didn't say anything about actually using that.
To me it sounded like the OP was asking is 17x8 and 17x10 ok to use as rims and what will he need to do to run them since he likes the rims so much. I"m curious too since 10" on the rear just sounds sexy.

Yeah, I got most of my info that I mentioned from RIJO. Not sure of his name but he was ALOT of help! Reccomend talking to him if anyone has questions like mine.
And like Trump said, I just mentioned a 225 rear. Didnt really mean thats what im going with, I was just gathering some knowledge on what tires i COULD run with that big of a wheel. Could I wrap my stock potenzas 245/40/R17 on my new 17"x10" wheel and not rub? that would be my favorite option as of right now. less money on tires.
My options are as follows:
-Looks like Ive decided to go with the 10" no matter what for street, I might buy a second track set later or use factory wheels with R compounds.
-I can either do stock fenders, run alot of camber, roll fenders, possibly stretch tires IF NEEDED.
-I can go with the ASM rear over-fenders which will allow me to run less camber and put more rubber on the ground and will eliminate rolling fenders(but will take more modication, which im not sure i want on my brand new 07 s2k)
-In the end, if money or mods werent a problem..I would go with the ASM rear fender/rear bumper combo which is about 4k w/o paint and also run the 10" wheel no problem.
Thanks for all the help and insight so far, this thread is actually useful!

I know the 225 was just a thought: I was trying to warn him that it's a really bad idea.
a 17x10 is possible, but it's awfulling tight and you really need the right offset. If I had to guess, I'd say +63 might work, but these Works come with a max of +41 according to what I've been able to find. At +41, it probably doesn't have as much lip as the lower offset Works. My point is that going 17x10 might fit with high offset, but you will lose the lip. A 17x10 with low offset and large lip probably won't fit at all.
If it actually did, but requires a 225 tire to clear along with a ton of camber, then I think that's a bit of a deathwish for a track setup.
Twanksta, What offset are you actually looking at? that makes all the difference in the world.
Why are you dead-set on 10" wheels for the street? Are you really just looking for a lot of lip (which don't need width for, just high offset)? It seems strange to run a 245mm tire on a 10" rim. If a wide lip is all you are looking for (and don't need the wide wheel to support a wide tire), then you can save yourself some money by going with a much narrower wheel, like 17x8 or 17x9 (i fit a 275 on my 17x9)

He told me that I would have to run some camber and roll fenders...but lets keep in mind that I will probably not lower my car where its slammed on its nuts and possibly have the ASM over-fenders installed. I just want a good finger and half between the wheel and fender and this setup will also most likely be ran with tein FLEX coilovers, so they will be stiff enough not to travel far and let the wheel hit the fender.
So basically what Im finding out is that this wheel setup is pretty much no good on the track or not AS good as another wheel option or even stock on R compounds.
