08 Stock Rear Wheel & Tire Weight
It's interesting to find out that the stock rear wheel & tire for a CR (17X8.5 w/ 255-40-17 Bridges Potenza RE070) weight 50 lbs. vs 39 lbs for a 93 RX-7 TT wheel & tire (16X8 w/ 225-50-16 Yoko Advan032R).
I understand that the CR has an inch more in diameter, is half an inch wider and has bigger tires but it was surprising for the weight to be so dramatically noticeable that I weighted them with my bathroom scale.
The RX-7 wheel is 16 lbs. w/o tires and is pressure cast IIRC.
Anybody know what the stock wheel weights are for the CR's?
reason for doing this: mounting winter tires soon

the weight difference is primarily in the larger tire
The Potenza's in 255-40-17 are quoted as 28 lbs. so that gives you a difference of 22 lbs. to account for the wheel weight and that is not factoring in the wear that my tire has gone through in about 2800 miles of driving which is probably minimal

actually 11lbs per side, not 22.
stock ap2v3s weigh 21-22lbs
stock rx7 weigh 13-16lbs (there were 2 versions, earlier and later)
that's a 5-6lb difference right there
the tires could EASILY account for the other 4-5lbs, what's the big mystery?

50 lbs (wheel & tire) minus 28 lbs for the tire gives you a wheel weight of 22 lbs./wheel on the CR
I know that there is an 11 lbs. difference between the wheels & tires of the CR & RX-7. 50(CR)-39(RX7)=11
There is no "big mystery"; I just thought that the Honda might have wanted the unsprung weight at a minimum considering that this was their SPORTSCAR and the pains they took in lightening the suspension arms. A 15 year of difference between the RX-7 and the CR would have given the newer car a great technological advantage at least in wheel weights..... but I guess not
