WTB s2000 CR OR Ap1
Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and I am currently the owner of a 2003 ap1. I decided to look in to buying another s2000, hence the want to buy thread. If this is not allowed here, I will move the thread. I thought it might be appropriate due to the wtb section being used for strictly parts.
Anyways, I am currently on the hunt for a CR OR a black/white Ap1 with red interior. I am a meticulous person and expect the new s2000 to be meticulous itself. Yes, I am willing to pay for this; yes, i have cash in hand.
My only stipulations are the car has to have under 80k, be immaculate, and preferably stock.
texting or calling is best. my name is brad, and my number is 812.221.0895.
I am willing to travel.
Cheers.

The CR is technically an AP2 (engine code). Why no love for the others? More mid-range power than the AP1-engined cars and the 2006 and later can be FlashPro tuned for significantly increased mid-range power. So-called AP2 cars have 17" wheels and lower profile tires, etc.
The CR is too binary for me. Coupe with a removable hard top or open car with no top whatsoever. No way to drop the top or put it up in the rain if you guessed wrong in the morning.

I actually totally agree with you. As far as a driver's car, an ap2 is for sure the way to go. While I will admit that the cr's lack of being a true convertible hinders the drivability, it comes down to nostalgia to me. I guess I prefer extremes.. because I would actually prefer the 9k revving motor, even if it makes less power, strictly for that wild power band alone. Kind of how I prefer using a fold up wooden chair I have from the 1800s when camping, regardless of literally any modern chair being better in every way. If that makes sense.

Opinions are like, ....well you know. Here is mine!
AP1 is great and 2003 is the best version, the AP2 is also great but is dependant on the year as the early years to me are best. The CR is well, the best of the bunch if you use it for its intended purpose. All depends on what you want.
I have a 2003 and a 2006 but was looking for a CR before I got the 2006. Please ask me which car gets driven the most, opinions vary but raw feel is a dominating factor.

Not sure what you mean by "driver's car." Most folks who buy an s2000 enjoy driving. I know I do. I like ap1 (preferably 02-03). Others like 01-02. Others like ap2, 04-05. Others like ap2, 06-09. Others like CR. There is no right or wrong here. Its all just personal preferences. They are all great cars and very similar. More alike than different. Some differences, yes. I don't think there is any particular "for sure" way to go.

AP1, AP2, CR! Nice to have choices none of the buyers who bought these new had.
Power is power. Power is torque times revs (divided by a number to make it a rational number) and the AP1 and AP2 engines both max out at the same number. The AP2 engine has more torque so it produces that power at a lower rpm. The rev limiter differences aren't really 8000 and 9000 rpm but more like 8400 and 8900 anyway. I really do like the tach on the AP1 engined cars going the full width of the display though but seldom have time to look at it!
Peak power is really not that important, it's the power under the curve where it can be used and both these engines greatly benefit from tuning their VTEC engagement points to a lower rpm. Transformed my 2006 when VTEC was set to 3600 rpm. A 6000 rpm VTEC keeps the car on the "fuel economy" cam (my term) for the vast majority of the time. A 3600 rpm VTEC has a major negative: VTEC Yo! no longer exists as the car is on the high power cam almost immediately at WOT in any gear.
I understand the need for speed and horsepower! Mine has "enough" for me. Now, anyway.

[i]As far as having the 9k powerband, or 8900, I prefer the ap1. When considering literally everything else, I prefer the cr. If I am getting in a vehicle with regards to having the \"perfect" powerband or speed, my 510hp civic will do. As said, I will take a loss in every category to be driving a torqueless, high revving, screaming motor around the twisties. After all, owning these cars wasnt meant to be practical in the first place
