WTB: DSLR Camera
anyone who has a dslr wanna gimme some tips or anything on what to look for in a dslr camera?
Leaning towards Sony A200 or Nikon D40, more towards the a200 cause i think both is running a sony chip with the a200 running a 10.2 while the d40 is a 6.1?...
Regarding lenses...is any lense going to be compatible or...what...

You have to first ask yourself if you will benefit from a DSLR. In most cases a higher end fixed lens camera works just fine for a lot less money.
When I bought an S3 IS a few years back I stopped shooting cars with the DSLR.

i was considering between a200 and d40 as well but opt for a200. I don't think megapixel matters too much here... nikon is a great camera but i think d40's been around for fairly a long time. a200 was on sale so i went to a200. You also need to consider choice of lenses in case you want to buy in future. Nikon has wide range of lenses to choose. I believe Sony also can choose from minolta lenses.

yeah i considered that also vik...
A200 has a better chip..but then again also has a wide selection of cameras
D40 is a mainstream brand and you get quality for what you pay for....but it is a discontinued model now....so :/...oh and no AF unless u got the motor in the lense or somthin?

No one has mentioned that you should actually TRY the cameras.
Nikon's camera design is IMO spectacular. All the buttons are in all the right places. It makes shooting more enjoyable when using an ergonomically designed camera.
I speak from experience. I am a photographer.
However, as your first DSLR, I wouldn't be too concerned. You will learn well on either platform. That being said, resolution isn't a biggy either unless you are planning on doing some large format prints.

Canon for me! I shoot with a 10D and I think Justin (SK) shoots with a 40D. Megapixels is not that big of a deal, I think mine is only 6. Go pick-it up and touch it and see what feels good in your hand.

I find it funny that nobody mentioned anything about canon until one of the last posts here.
If you are comparing the D40 and A200, don't leave out a 30D or even XTi/XSi Canon. It's pretty much personal preference from there. Try them all out and see what one feels best
