Visiting Vancouver.
Hi all,
The family and I will be visiting Vancouver next week and would like a few suggestions on places to eat. We would like to try authentic Chinese (Taiwanese and Shanghai) , Japanese, Thai and even some local "hole in the walls", that are goood!!
Is the night market in Richmonds open on any of the week nights?
Thanks in advance!

Tomokazu on Broadway is probably one of the better japanese restaurants IMO.
I believe the opened days for the night market is extended for the summer season, im not sure what the days are though.
As for other food suggestions...i am not too sure as i have a hardtime differentiating thai/shanghai/chinese/taiwanese food :/

If you're looking for some interesting authentic Jap food, check out Guu or Zakkushi in Downtown. Guu is pretty busy and small, so I'm not sure how big your family is, but I would scratch it if more than 4 people.

As far as Thai Food goes, I'm not sure how authentic it is, but I've always loved Sawasdee on Main St. Wish I could help you out on the Taiwanese/Shanghai cuisine but I don't eat that very often, but check out www.dinehere.com. Tons of good info for every type of restaurant in the lower mainland.

I don't think Tomokazu is even operated by Japanese. All the waiters/waitresses aren't even Japanese so I won't call it authentic. The ones opened only by Japanese are likely going to be very expensive. I heard Guu is good. Of course if budget isn't an issue, try Tojo, but expect to spend about $200 for two ppl.

Vietnamese Hole-in-the-Wall = Au Petit Cafe on Main St. @ 33rd Ave. Busy during lunch and they close early, @ 7 I think.

Ahh Vancouver dining.. I already miss this place. Guu is fun and tasty Tojo's is great especially if someone else's is paying Don't sit at table where the chef's menu comes out.. unless you want to eat a ton. There's a small chinese restaurant on Broadway and Commercial (name escapes me) that serves authentic schezuan cuisine. Will be a good place for the family and quite afforable as well.
I would also explore the vast "other" types of cuisines there as well.. Vacouver is well known for their seafood, steaks, and asian fusion. I would recommend you also try a steak house up there as they have some great ones. I avoid going to gotham's since my 2 experiences there was not that great.
Have fun!

^^I like Gothams, although I like their sister restaurant The Shore Club a little bit more b/c they serve seafood but still have the key cuts of steak normally available at Gothams.
