Speaking from experience, veteran autox drivers are some of the most, um, problematic drivers on the track because they're usually loaded with confidence but lack real experience with the much higher speeds a proper road course allows.
Ken, for track driving, get your car setup for it. Fresh fluids, DOT 5.1 brake fluid, higher temp brake pads is not is a must, but it sucks to lose your brakes 4 laps into your 20-25 minute session. R-comp tires is not a must, but make sure your tires are in good condition. Get your alignment done too. And be prepared to have fun.
Depending where you run, your stock roll hoops might not be sufficient roll over protection, and some groups may not allow you to run with an M rated helmet.
Since it is going to be your first time, you will HAVE to run with the novice group and have an instructor ride with you. Listen to what they have to say and try to reproduce what they tell you. Do not try to over drive your ability. Consequences can be pretty harsh.

Following Edwen's link to VCMC, I see that one of our own, ok2000, had won Rookie of the Year!
