My son liked them..., I read up on them and heard only great things. I decided I wanted one so I got a broker to find one for me and gave specific details of what I wanted. I continued to search. One week later the broker contacted me and he had three for me to look at all out of the US. One of the cars he selected I had found and was going to ask him about. I purchased that one and had it at my house within 3 weeks from Florida. I had a Porsche 944 and was going to keep that as a daily, but once I drove the S, I never drove the 944 again. Kept the 944 for a year, then sold it.

 

I was 5 years old when I had the first chance to watch a Automobile Race, a Hill Climb in Switzerland. While I was watching the Porsche 356, MG, Morgan and Triumph Sports cars racing up the hill I knew that one day I too would drive a two seater. And then in the late 1990's I saw the first pictures of the Honda Convertible and knew this is the one. Finally, 56 years later in 2012, I sat in a Sports car for the very first time, test driving a 2006 Honda S2000 with just 24'000 km. I bought the car and drove it home a week later. As the saying goes, good things take time.

 

I agree, all good things arrive in their proper time. I'm approaching the big seven-oh (although I feel 30 years younger, too stupid to act my age), so in my case perhaps the S2K qualifies as my "mid-life-crisis" car ... albeit a bit late.

I asked a buddy of mine if there was a graceful way for an old-timer to get in and out of the car, and he proclaimed "you don't get in and out of an S2K, you wear it !"

 

My friend let me drive his AP1 back in 2000 with the top down and I instantly fell in love with it. It was basically everything I wanted my Integra GSR to drive like and more.

The driving position, steering feel and even the fact that you can literally see the trunk of the car and the front of other cars as you doing a shoulder check while changing lanes brought a smile to my face.

It was a 50K car at the time so I wasn't able to afford one, but 8 years later I finally bought my 2007 GPW.

 

Shortly after I bought my first S, I had to go out of town for about a week and a half. I gave the car to my gearhead dad knowing he'd have fun with it. When I came to get the car he said, "Jeez I finally figure how to get in an out of this thing and you take it back!"

As for how I got hooked on the S...I remember learning about the car when it first came out and thinking I'd never own it because they were so expensive. A few years later I ended up dating an owner - never did I think I'd sit in one, let alone drive one...then in 2005 was finally able to afford an AP1. Ended up selling him to go back to grad school, but bought another about a year after graduation. After all these years I still think they are sexy as hell.

 

When I saw a preview test in Road and Track magazine in '99 (I think), I said to myself that I would have one somewhere down the road when I had the money and the time to enjoy it. At $50000+, I figured it would be awhile.

Fast forward 7 years to 2006 with the S2000 still on the back of my mind, and lo and behold I spotted one under a foot of snow at a Ford dealership here on the Island. I bought it the next day with 17,000 Km on it, and have been thrilled to drive it winter and summer to this day. I still can't get enough of it after adding 150,000 Km to the odometer.

I have owned or driven most of the muscle cars back in the day (60's, 70's), and the S2000 is still one of the best performance cars that I have ever had the pleasure of driving. My previous favourite was a Corvette....

I was never a fan of Hondas, always been a Nissan guy, read the torque numbers and wouldn't give the s2000 a second thought, but then one day my friend let me drive his AP2 s2000 up to whistler.... The rest is history lol.

My story is fairly short. In 2007 I went to the Vancouver Car Show and I saw the S2000 in Imola Orange Pearl. I sat inside it, ran through the gears, felt the pedals, seat, tranny tunnel, peripherals... then I just thought to myself "I have to own one when I grow up". (I was 16/17 at the time)

From there, I continued school, had crap jobs, better jobs, then good job... I was looking at buying a "real car" and the S2000 was in the cross sights. I made contact with a few owners, did some test drives (with each drive I became more intoxicated) and took a large number of notes into a book. At home, all I did was talk about it. It was all I wanted. Long story short: bought the one I liked most and the rest is history.

Now, almost two years later if I'm having a shit day, I just go for a drive. It always levels me out and brings me back.
