different brand tires on front and rear advice
How many of you guys use different brands of tires on the rear and fronts? I just wonder how it would affect handling. Anyone notice any difference?
I have a nail on a rear tire and noticed the inner edge is almost bald while the other rear is fairly new. Sadly I will replace both rears as that tire model is discontinued (Kuhmo Supra 712)
Was looking at the hankook ventus v12 evo (since it's so cheap @ Discount tire) or Potenza RE760 sport (Costco) for the rear... I currently have a 255/40/17 (rear) and 225/45/17 (front) set up.

basically if the better tire is on the front then the more you will get bent. if the better tire is on the rear the less you will get bent. under harder cornering of course.

I don't see it being a big problem especially if both tires are of similar performance. I think the problem comes when you have different tires on left/right.
At one point I ran RE-11s on the front and S02s on the back, and it would have a bit more tendency to oversteer, but that was kind of predictable.

Do you plan on doing anything dumb in your car on the streets?
Most likely, you won't notice the difference on the streets.
For track/autoX, I noticed the difference as I had really old Kumho MX's in the front and newerish Kumho SPT's in the rear.
In this case, you will have newer tires in the rear so your car would understeer more, if you were pushing your car.

keep in mind, though, that tires can have different warmup and wet grip characteristics, so the grip balance may not be predictable..

You won't feel it when you are downshifting unless you are downshifting so badly that the car jerks. When i went from mismatched set to complete set, the car was more event front to back. I drove on mismatched set for one summer and also autoxed on them.
It looks like you're gonna have more grip on the rear than the front with the new setup. When you go into a corner, you're gonna understeer easier. My advice is to get the rear tires that have similar grip levels.
