is it neccessary to cover the vents on the vented hood to prevent water from going into the engine bay?

I don't thonk so... I know a few people who have vented hoods and they don't seem to take any extra care during rain or snow... Too bad Xviper wasn't still around, 'cause he would have been able to give you a definitive answer.

I just did a search of Xviper's old threads, and sure enough there was info about vented hoods. According to Xviper, he has never had a problem with his vented hood after driving in both heavy rain and snow. He stated that more water gets splashed up from below than the water that comes through the vents. His only complaint is that the engine gets dirty fairly quickly.

Yeah, it's definitely not a pretty sight (gets dirty really quick!) but there's no adverse affects of a vented hood. Apparently everything is fairly water-safe under there. I've been running a vented CF hood since summer and haven't had any ill effects from the water.

i was thinking though. i have a K&N fipk intake..im not sure if you guys know what it looks like, but its pretty much the stock intake with the box off.

there is a rubber seal that lines the top of the airbox which is supposed to seal with the top of the hood. and i was looking at vented hoods, and it looks like some of them might have the vent right overtop where the intake would be.

and i know if water gets into the intake then ya, hydrolock

Do a search for the topic "hood vents rain" and you will see what some have said about that. It looks to me like there is a drain hole in the housing for water to escape, but I am not really sure...
