You gotta be kidding with that statement.

Plates help us differniate which car is which in a sea of S2000's. Also, plates with insurance decals tells up which cars have insurance and which don't. Also, around here, basic plates cost $18 for a pair.

Imagine a car hits you and all you can tell the police is a Black S2000 hit you.

It's just common sense to require clear identification of vehicles. And why are people always so quick to assume the only thing the government is here to do is squeeze more money out of its citizens? At only $18/pair, ICBC is probably loosing money on issuing plates to every registered car on the road after you include the cost of manufacturing the plates, distributing the plates, and the man-hours required to maintain such a registry.

You guys got it wrong, If you look I am from the good ol' USA LOL
and also i dont use the car very often. Out here the officers arent as kind as how the RCMP is over where you guys are. They really do try and squeeze every single last dime they possibly could from ya. However, my car is fully insured and registered. compaired to the $18/ pair, we are spending almost 10 times the amount. $179 is what i paid for. Also there are cameras where it just flashes for no reason...sure you might say take that to court. I did, the answer i recieved was oh well tough luck it was not funtioning properly and thought i was doing something illegal. Sorry for the thread jack. lol

I don't think Tim minds since he has his plate issue fixed.

Back to our discussion, if you drive around plateless, doesn't cops give you heck? Or were you lucky enough not to drive by any cops?

I've had my car for almost 2 full years, and 20 months of that was without a properly mounted front plate. I received my second, third for the car, ticket for the front plate tucked between the windsheild and dash. The police gave me a ticket for not having the front plate on the front of the car, a $108 dollar ticket which I have disputed for other reasons. Last week, some lady cut me off and I rear ended her. When the police came, the told me I had to have a front plate on. Luckily for me, I had the plate in the trunk and told them the plate got ripped off from the accident and was in my truck all busted up. Heehee. =)

Oh, and some districts have city police, not RCMP's but the Ditchmond RCMP's are the worst.

According to google, Huntington beach is is california, and is among the many states which don't require a front license plate, so the cops would have no legal ground on which to hassle you if you were driving without a plate on the front.

On a side note, on my last trip to LA (which happened to be the same trip I bought my S2000 on ) I noticed that quite a lot of new cars were driving around without any plates, or even a day permit taped to the window. Anyone have any idea how they could get away with it? I have a hard time imagining the police seeing that and having the generosity not to dish out a fistful of tickets.

I've had a few times where the officers are right behind me looking at me weird, and pulled over once by a local officer whos always in the same location camping. He pulls me over hands me his cell phone and asks if he could get a few pics in my car (NO JOKE) the officers here are really chill and know that i do not drive like a dumba$$ nor do i speed.
