I looked up the data from my long road trip last fall. Driving on my snow tires with my trunk full of stuff and two of us in the car these are the distances that a full tank would've gotten me:

544.48 kms
568.87 kms
559.67 kms
518.58 kms
597.93 kms
517.49 kms
636.73 kms
614.66 kms
558.40 kms
566.43 kms
596.20 kms

This was mostly Interstate driving averaging probably 80-90mph. 636kms! I couldn't believe it myself.

One tip I can give is to check your tire pressure to ensure that it is at the correct pressure. An underinflated tire will result in poorer fuel economy. Also, if you take the car in for service always check the tire pressure yourself. Don't assume that it is at the correct pressure. I remember checking my tire pressure after having new tires installed and all four had different readings.

the vette c7 almost gets the same economy as our car and can use regular fuel if need be.

Would've b/c I didn't let the car run dry. So the numbers are extrapolated based on a 50 litre tank (13.2gallons).

I quick search shows others that have gotten 30+ mpg. 636kms would've only been 29mpg, although I suspect that if I didn't have a passenger and a trunk full of luggage, etc... I would've gotten ever so slightly better gas mileage.

It does seem that our cars are capable of being fuel efficient, under the right circumstances.

is our fuel gauge extremely off or something. It was half yesterday when I filled up but I only filled up like 16 litres. 50/2 is 25

alspeed - didn't doubt you @ all, just very impressed. It also seems that AP2's get better fuel mileage. Most AP1 owners i've talked to average around 380 whereas AP2's tend to break 400 around the city.

My fuel gauge seems a little off when filling at the 1/2 way mark as well, but at these prices i breath a sigh of relief....

The worse thing is when i fill up for my pickup. 120l tank and my visa stops the transaction at $100, which gets me about 3/4 tank with 87 oct.
