It didn't seem to go off around those movable police radar check points.

What I did do, is upgrade the V1 to this POP mode.
Not to sure what POP is and if any cops even use it. I believe its a two band radar that is an instant on radar.
Any thought to this POP radar?
I have heard that a few folks have had this problem after leaving their RD in an enclosed car on a hot sunny day... it does something to the sensitivity and sometimes needs to go back to Valentine reasearch for a tune. Let the unit cool off and it may return to normal. By taking it off the window or visor and placing it on the foor, that can help (keep it a little cooler), along with keeping your RD safe from peering eyes.
There is a big difference between POP radar and instant-on. POP Mode is a feature by MPH Industries in their newest radar guns. The feature is designed to defeat radar detectors. POP acquires a vehicle's speed by sending out a quick burst of radar. The burst is so fast that the detectors available, at the time, did not alert to it, because the sweep rate was too slow to detect it or due to the short burst being filtered out as a false alert. Many radar detector manufacturers have now added POP detection capability to their latest radar detectors. To address naseebs comments... you can buy a whole new unit (if U want a quality unit, that's 200+) or you can send your RD back to Valentine reasearch for a $75 upgrade (Hardware and/or software whichever brings it up to "new".). Maybe it's just a gimick or good marketing, but I think it's good customer relations, they look out for their first customers as well as their most recent ones. Here is a quote right form their website: "I don

You can sell your old radar detectors on ebay for 1/2 to 3/4 of the price.

actually, shumax, you can send in the escort with $50 and they will tear it down, refurbish it, and update any software on it. I already called about this and am waiting to send mine in when I know I wont need the car (ie: out of town)

Now, I am not 100% sure as I called them about 6 months ago, but I am almost positive she told me they upgrade the firmware as well.....

V1 drove me crazy. It went off so much I finally threw it in the trunk...

Now I keep an expired insurance card in my car and mind my manners when "it" happens. Because of this strategy, I have only had to pay maybe 2 fines in the last few years despite being pulled over probably once every three months for 10 mph or so over.

On the other hand, when I get out of town and plan on getting the dash numbers into "free ride to the magistrate" territory, the V1 comes out of the trunk, and it hasn't ever let me down...
