Default union grove vs byron

i've always gone to union grove for the past few years, but they didn't let me run last year after i did a pass under 13.49. apparently convertibles running 13.49 or faster require a rollbar for safety reasons. i've never been to byron, but i hear they are much more lenient and they'd probably let me run regardless. i go to the track 1-3 times a year, so investing in a rollbar doesn't seem legitimate to me, not to mention i personally don't like the look of rollbars on roadsters. anyone been to byron? are they as lenient as i hear? anyone down to go this upcoming season?

I have never been to Byron, so I really can't say for sure. However, I find it VERY hard to believe there is anyplace that is less stringent on the rules than at Union Grove. That place seems to offer ALL new meaning to "run whatcha brung."

I think it's possible that they got out the rule book because the person running that day did not like your car.

Byron is much more forgiving than Union.

Example:

My buddy (94 Supra) ran a low 11 at Union and got kicked off after the 2nd run. We went to Byron a few weeks later, ran a high 10, and they never said a word.

I also saw a SC300 w/2JZ swap run a low 10 without a roll cage and they never said a word.

i just recently heard a rumor that byron is inaccurate (eg. a low 10sec pass @ union grove would be a high 9sec pass @ byron). i find this hard to believe.. anyone ever hear of this?

Never heard anything like that....we ran a 11.02 at union and a 10.98 at byron, with no changes to the car

as of last year union grove made it mandatory to wear helmuts no matter how fast your veh is running (2 yrs ago it was not needed).. does byron require a helmut to be worn? or need it if running faster than a specific time?

Byron lets you get away with more. I went there in September and ran two eleven sec. passes with no cage and they never said a thing. On the third run, I took my brother with to help me figure out a problem I was having with the car and they still didn't say anything. It will also depend on the person who is handing out the timeslips. The day I went, a young teenage girl was handing them out and I don't think she really cared.

Also, last year you didn't have to wear a helmet if you were running 14.00 and up.
