basically, its left so open ended that the cop can give you a ticket, even if the car is as loud as stock..... i got a ticket for the same BS 5 years ago. In the cops defense, the invidia exhaust is the loudest friggin exhaust ever on the s2k....
you kinda just have to deal with it. Ive only got dinged for it one time in the past 10+ years ive had modded or loud cars.

Based on this it doesn't seem like it is inherently illegal. It's just that I've never heard an aftermarket exhaust that wasn't louder than stock.

Lol thanks guys, i suppose it doesnt help ive given the invidia the tp on top of it all.. I've heard plenty of arguments by co-workers so far stating that a Db reader is how they can prove your too loud and some flipping out over the officer slipping "illinois law about eftermarket exhausts" and modifications to the oem ones. Appears im not the only one caught by surprise.
Unfortunatly I went aftermarket because my stock exhaust recieved a nice dent and a hole from a good ol' country road i got lost and pissed on.
Would be an awesome idea to take a picture of a fellow spa owners car with my plate on it as evidence of the "change" back to stock though.
I probably see maybe 1-2 S2000's in the area to which i live, and they are both ap2's (sazuka and a NFR).
Quick question here though, does this citation reflect on insurance at all?

I converted a 1956 Ford Fairlane from a 292 to a 332 with an Offenhauser triple-duce intake in 1959. It got a "public nuisance" ticket on the very first shake-down drive. The glass-packed muffler had to be pulled The car had to be inspected at one of the police stations in Cambridge, MA and ....... I still had to pay the damn fine.

Whoa............I don't care what part of the political spectrum you abide, that's way too severe.

drag racing also gets your car crushed.
Put my cat back on, sounds a hell of alot more toned down outside. But it did remind me of why i put it on, severe cabin droan.
Im not getting rid of this exhaust though, i dont want to remove it either.
There is more to this "exhaust too loud" law then i knew. You have to prove to the court your exhaust has been "fixed" to get off the hook. That means welded silencers or back to stock from what i was told so far.
