What do they do if you fail because of the test pipe? are there consequences? or do they just say come back when it has a cat? Trying to determine if i want to roll the dice

There is no reason why you should fail, as long as you don't have any CEL's and you gas cap is in working order. They do not do visual inspections in the state of IL for auto's. All it is is is the OBDII (plug and pass). and gas cap check.
I went into my Emissions test with my TP w/ O2 sim, no CEL's, and I passed without issues, even though you could smell the uncatalyzed exhaust emmissions stinking up the test bay. They won't even look under your car, and they don't do the sniffer test any longer either.
If you're still concerned about it, I have an OEM Cat in excellent condition that someone can either buy ($80) or borrow from me (for a nominal fee).

The sparkplug anti-fouler fix works GREAT; my test pipe was throwing CEL's for days until Dustin (RAIN H8R) tossed one on-- CEL disappeared almost immediately and hasn't been back since. $5 for 2 of them at Autozone.

You're just used to it. I get comments all the time from people behind me saying mine smells, but I'm used to it as well

Midwesta - are you ever going to sell the Berk 70MM HFC? I'm a pseudo tree hugger, so I've been thinking about switching back to my OEM Cat until I'm acquire a HFC and I prefer to buy from local vendors.

I still have my cat. Probably will just throw it on next time i change any fluids. MY registration doesnt expire until end of may and the car is sleeping for another two weeks. i have plenty of time. i was just curious because part of me just wants to see what would happen...
I was also curious to see how they reacted to the exhaust + the gokart smell hah
