The only problem I had with the area is getting to major highways is a PITA.
They REALLLLLY need to pass the 53 bypass/extension. The area up north is growing so much, but they aren't doing anything to ease up the congestion. Towns and villages can widen their own roads all they want but without some sort of joint major overhaul, it will only get worse. ALTHOUGH, the new rand road area is decent....
But yeah, why would you ask about the area AFTER you bought a house???
Hope you enjoy it.

It's a good place to live. I'm over in the NE part of town, and commute into Chicago everyday (my Impreza is the daily driver). Have a 2001 Silverstone, although it's still in hibernation up in Door County.
In terms of bars it depends on the scene you're looking for. The Cottage can be fun, although it gets crowded on the weekends. Although it's not a hot spot I enjoy the jukebox and having some drinks at the Metro Bowl downtown. Classic old school 'beer and a shot' bar...was built in 1954 and nothing has changed. The guys who run it (Jimmy and Ted) are both great too.

Its not a bad area. you can drive to all the stuff by LITH/Algonquin with ease. shopping/food etc. I'm in CL every day obviously. the drive to barrington is fast too.
