april 5/6 im gonna be attending the SCCA learning curve event in Joliet... so should i run my winter sport m3's or my re-01r's ?
The key here is of course temps being below 40/45 deg.
On Saturday, most the morning is classroom time giving the day time to warm up a bit for afternoon driving. Saturday is also more of a "technical" day where you aren't necessarily going to be pushing the limits (as much at least). So winter/summer tires is not all that important on Saturday.
On Sunday the full course is run and of course you will be pushing harder so it may be more of an issue especially in the AM.
With all that being said, the Learning Curve is MORE about building a good base with safety and good autox habits. BUT it's always more fun to go faster and being in a competition (in a way) you will be disappointed (maybe) by being on less grippy tires if it warms up enough.
Of course if it stays cool and/or wet, those on all-seasons will be laughing their as**s off at the guys on summer tires.
For what it's worth, they are saying Saturday temps will be 50/37, right on the edge in the AM for sure, fine later in the day. Sunday temps are not up yet.
During the first autox of the season a few years back I spun my EVO 8 during a long sweeper, DOH, Advans FTL, that event really made me respect the temps while on summer tires. Not saying it's impossible to spin an EVO, but it's a helluva lot harder to spin an EVO than a S2000 for sure.
Don't forget you will be driving TO the event during even colder temps as well!

I am going to hesitantly say use the summer tires.
