I'm keeping my eye on this thread: http://forums.chicagovw.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=10576

That's really interesting about the "Chicago boxes" Pat. I wonder why that is.

And when Pat means everywhere... it's literally EVERYWHERE. I've been to events in Mississippi, Florida, Texas and everyone calls them Chicago boxes. Never asked why. Outside of the area you hardly ever see them as small though, most outsiders make them pretty big.

Interesting article about the Evo school. http://speedhunters.com/archive/2009/03/09...oss-school.aspx

Another recommendation for the Evo school. It's a long day, it's a lot of runs (you'll pretty much want to stop driving before the day is over) but it is very good instruction. I really want to take the dial-in school. One day.

For the motorsport newbs out there (me), what exactly is a Garage or Chicago box?

It's basically a slalom (depending upon angle of entry) but with extra cones to distract you. Picture a garage with two single-car doors. You go in one door and out the other door as fast as you can. And yes, some of them are that size. I've also seen some where the openings are the size of two-car doors.

Often, SCCA / TSSCC events have the garage set up roughly in line with the course line, so it really is a slalom with distraction cones. Sometimes it's offset/angled some. But I have never seen anything like what VW put at the SW corner of the course at Maywood this weekend.

But that, along with the skidpad and 360 pin cone, were put in place to create a 50sec course out of a 35sec lot.

video of my last (fastest) run. video quality is standard miniDV, which looks much less impressive than what Pat got from his ContourHD. very nice Pat. your driving wasn't too shabby either :-)
