Default Route 66 Auto Cross

It was a fun 2 day event of auto crossing at Route 66. There were lots of S2000's there

I was able to video tape 3/5 runs today. My last 2 runs where in the poring rain and unfortunately I can't mount the camera with the top up...

My first run was basically blind since I got there late and had no time to walk to course before hand. So as you will see I am taking it a touch slower and almost missed the last slalom ....
Run Number 1 = 56 seconds
Run Number 1

Run Number 2 = 54 seconds
Run Number 2

Run Number 3 = 53 seconds
Run Number 3

This was my first Auto Cross ever! Had a great time! and can't wait to do it again

Glad you guys had fun.

It's not all about the driving.

1. SCCA Chicago 99% of the time gets 6 runs
2. most coarses are about 60secs long
3. you can learn more in those 6 minutes that you will EVER in RL
4. Crap talk FTW

The last track day I went to last year I did 6 20min sessions. That's 2 hrs at speed vs. 5 mins.

BTW -- I have done Auto-X before, and I did enjoy it. I am not hating, I was just surprised at the number of runs.

25 turns in 53.011 seconds, in the wet for me. Extremely fun.

Good to see a lot of s2000's there, good to see some familiar faces too.

Indexed and class results are posted on SCCA-Chicago region site http://scca-chicago.com/solo/index.html

Glad to hear you had fun at the school!

Hopefully next week's weather will be more cooperative. The course will be exact same as the one from the school you'll be at an adventage

Watch the videos, study them, compare to your map/notes, figure out where you lost time, come back Sunday and go faster!

"I have done Auto-X before, and I did enjoy it." followed by "I was just surprised at the number of runs."
confuse me...
How many runs did you get at the auto-x you attended? Not that's it's relevant at this point, i'm just confused by your statement since usually 6 runs is what you get for the day.
We limited the 2nd day to 5 runs per student/instructor because of the rainy weather.

"The last track day I went to last year I did 6 20min sessions. That's 2 hrs at speed vs. 5 mins."

Depending on the track you went to, you could've spend say 1hour40min on the straightaway... by that measure my commute to Rt66. was just as exciting with about 1 hour on the highway each way

It's worth noting lapping/track days are completely different form of car enjoyment and can't really be compared to auto-x. It's not apples to apples.

Also, keep in mind, this was a learning curve school, this wasn't your regular auto-x. This was the course run on the 2nd day. The 1st day there were two smaller courses that were run much more, each of them giving a chance for the instructor and student to work on multiple things, weather it was just getting familiar with seeing the course (as opposed to a sea of cones), getting a feel for the car, looking ahead, positioning the car etc.

2-3, I can't remember now. It was part of the Freshwater Tour '04 at the Tire Rack. We didn't have all day there, and it was really only open to the tour participants so it was not a "regular" event.

25 Turns with 5 runs (heck, let's go for all 6) == 150 turns

I was referring to the event I ran at the North track of the Autobahn Circuit. My best lap was a 1:21. Let's take out warm up and cool down and account for traffic issues by calling it 15 minutes for each session, and 1:25 per lap. That calculates out to 10.5 laps per session. The north track only had 9 turns. Multiply by 6 sessions and that is 567 turns.

If you managed to get 567 turns in on the highway on the way to the event, more power to you.

BTW -- I hit 115-120 at the end of the main straight on the north track. If you hit that on the highway on the way there, again, more power to you.
