Default Questions for the IL. people?

If I buy a car from out of state, would I have to pay taxes on the car when I come back?

Also if I trade in my car at a dealership out of state, do I only have to pay the difference when I come back to IL. , or do I have to pay the full amount?

Need some advice!

Thanks guys!

I paid 22,250 for my car with no trade and outside financing. The tax when i got home was someplace in the range of 1,600 that i had to pay out of pocket.

You'll have to pay only the difference (Sales Tax on your new car - [ST allowance for your trade-in + any out of state tax paid]), you will not be double taxed.

It'd help you understand it better if you looked at form RUT-50 (& RUT-25).
