I think the lower voltage purple is much darker. It would also give off blues and browns when light hit it, instead of reds and greens.

Most of the anodizing I've seen has been purple, pink, or green. I always assumed that the higher voltage was key to making it work. Though I have seen some blue.

And as long as he can refrain from using the generator leads as nipple clips, he'll be okay.

Tony, as I said, you can get color change with heat. The problem is that the coloring is not consistent (look at exhaust tips).
