Not necessiarly a manufacture's defect.

If Honda starts getting lots of people bringing in Civics with a sqeaking sound from the left rear eventually Honda will determine what the problem is (if there is a problem.) Perhaps it's just a bushing that needs to be lubed. Honda will issue a TSB to ALL dealerships so the service people know what to when someone brings their car in with this complaint. It saves troubleshooting time.

A TSB is an internal document and has NO legal responsibility associated to it.

ruexp67 is correct. i'm actually a service consultant for toyota. a TSB (technical service bulletin) is basically internal information for service departments to solve common problems w/ certain vehicles. a service campaign is essentially a recall, and a manufacture will only initiate a service campaign if the concern w/ the vehicle is considered a saftey issue. unfortunately a TSB will only be covered under the factory warranty (3yr/36k for honda). so in regards to a defect, a manufacture may initiate a service campaign if it is a safety concern, otherwise they may only provide dealerships w/ a TSB. if anyone has any questions in regards to dealership service, feel free to ask me

A TSB for the transmission grinds offered no soultion just let the service people know that it was a frequent problem.
Every dealer will tell you it is just normal or your fault, that is bad service.
