Newbie saying HI!
Hi guys,
I am kinda new to the S2K scene and dont know too much about them yet. However, I am selling my 325XI to pick one up. I have driven a few, including luder94(Urmil's) car and I have fallen in love with them. I cant wait for some of the summer meets that urmil was talking about. Anyways, thought i would drop a line and say hello.

Thanks for the welcome! I was wondering how many of you track your cars. I will be tracking a 944 turbo S this year and have a list of SEVERAL track days this season that I can load here for you guys. Looking foward to meeting you guys and girls this summer.

'nuther newbie here... I've already pretty much made up my mind to get an S2000, but it's gonna have to wait til September or so.
I had an 85 RX-7 for about 5 years, which I drove daily year round here in the Chicago NW burbs, and I absolutely loved that car. Unfortunately the motor lost an apex seal last fall, and repair would be more than the car was worth.
I had been looking at several replacements, the 350Z, the RX-8, and my dream, a 93 RX-7 R1. I had never considered a roadster, but had admired the S2000 at a distance. Well, today my wife and I dropped by a local dealer, and I got to sit in one for the first time, and drive it. Needless to say, this is going to be my next car!!!
I think having had the RX-7 will have well prepared me for the S2000, as far as using such a car year round in a northern clime, and dealing with the unique needs and care that a true sports car requires.
I'm curious, have any of you driven your car during the winter? How well has that gone? My RX-7 wasn't too bad even in bad snow, and I figure the S2000 should be similar.
Anyone have thoughts about preferred dealers in the Chicagoland area, or those to avoid?
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself, and I'll prolly be asking questions from time to time as I get closer to making my purchase.

Tom, check out his thread. It's from while back, but has a lot of reviews of local dealerships.

I got both of my cars at Highland Park Honda and have been very happy with them there. Indeed, happy enough to buy my second car from them. I worked the deal with Cliff in finance, not a sales guy.

Thanks S2KGirl, that info helps. That thread confirms what I've heard about Schaumburg Honda...
Have you been happy with the service department at Highland Park Honda? That's as big a concern for me as the purchase, even though I usually do most of the maintenance on my cars.

A couple of my autox buddies and I are tentatively planning to go these track events in the area:
April 12 (sat) Blackhawk Farms
May 17 (sat) BlackHawk Farms Solo I
May 26 * HP3C (High Performance Car Control Clinic) Blackhawk Farms Raceway, Rockton, IL
May 31-June 1 BMW Club @ Road America
June 21 NSSCC Drivers School @ Blackhawk Farms
June 23 ClubSi Track day @ Gingerman
must be nice to have a dedicated 944 track car. poor students like me can't afford it. =( just gonna have to suffer changing pads and bleeding brakes often!

i drove my s2k all winter long whenever there wasn't snow on the ground w/ my worn out summer only s02 tires. it was kinda painful. basically
1) i couldn't gun it. the tires would peel anytime i tried vtec in 1st or 2nd gear.
2) i couldn't turn fast. the tires felt like they would lose it any second. (they often did...)
3) when there was snow on the ground, driving my car was pretty dangerous. even though i love drifting, i still felt like i had no control w/ snow on the ground.
if you ever needed reasons to purchase winter tires, my experience would be it. however, i think winter tires on an s2k would still make the car feel like basic transportation. =(
