DON'T TRY TO START IT AGAIN!
Until you KNOW the extent of the dammage.
You can easily remove the valve cover. You just remove the coil cover, coil packs, the two cam position sensors, the PCV valve and breather and then it's just the 5-6 bolts holding it on. There is a wireing harness that runs behind the motor along the firewall. It is clipped to a bracket on the passenger side of the motor, you will have to release that so you can move the harness out of the way or else the valve cover won't come out.
When you are looking for is the ends of the valves. If any of them have dropped out, it should be fairly obvious.
The picture shows the valve step sticking up through the retainer. The one on the left is normal, the one of the right has dropped, and actually indicated a broken retainer. It's possible that you will find one missing completley.

And this is why I do not let anyone else drive my car. I really hope your cousin in law sticks to his word. He probably doesn't know how costly this will really be I bet. As a few mentioned, first find out the extent of the damage. It might turn out cheaper buying another motor instead of rebuilding. Anyways, good luck with the repairs.

okay. I got the estimate back from the honda dealer today and it turns out it will cost about 11,000 to repair it. they said they've never seen an engine so badly destroyed. they told me that 4 of the intake valves were bent two were cracked and the last two exploded due to the pressure. the fourth cylinder took most of the damage. they said the cylinder is really badly scored, thus the spark plug looked the way it did. they said that due to the extent of the damages he must have been at red line in a high gear and shifted it to second gear because it's not easy to put it into first while rolling at high speeds.
looks like i need to do an engine swap for sure. i've found a decent deal on a used engine under 35000 miles for 4000 but if anyone knows of a better deal, i would be greatly appreciative of that. please let me know.
also, now that my cousin in law has seen the bill he claims that he may not be able to pay for the whole thing. so i may have to put in some cash of my own. i could run a lawsuit but i've talked to four attorneys already and they said ill probably be paying more for the lawyers wages. it wouldn't solve anything anyways since if he doesn't have the money, then i don't get paid. If i don't get paid, my car won't get the TLC it deserves.
so right now im not sure of what to do...i guess ill just have to do an engine swap and have him pay for the engine. still trying my best to stay cool.

We could help you out here at GT Motoring for half of that 11,000. Possibly less, couple options are available if you are interested in bringing the car that far.
Shoot me a PM if interested.
