[QUOTE=ap1chick,Apr 24 2005, 06:25 PM] I agree, especially with the way some of you guys drive.

Yea we beat this to hell last year, seems nothings changed.
You weren't there and don't know what it was like at all.

Things were very different, but with similar result. It is VERY VERY difficult to keep a large group of cars (anything over two) together.

I am working on some guidlines, I will be posting them up soon.

If you want to hot dog, and speed off, go off on your own.

Make sure that one is in there.

Mark, you weren't there. You have no idea what I did, or how I drove.

Here is an example from a couple of years ago. I led a group drive and at NO POINT exceeded 80MPH. When we got back to the meeting point people were bragging about going 110-120MPH because they had fallen behind. People were running red lights to keep up.

That shit is NOT cool.

I led a group drive of < 5 mi last year driving my full size pickup truck. I turned on the cargo lights (white lights next to the third brake light mounted HIGH on the cab) so I would be easier to see and follow. People still got lost.

There is no pleasing everyone, it's not possible. Every time I lead a group drive I get bitched at. Too fast, too slow, whatever it doesn't matter. I didn't want to lead this drive either, but NO ONE, not ONE PERSON bothered to look up where they hell they were going.

If you guys don't like the way I lead, step up and lead the drive yourselves. I am VERY happy NOT to have the responsibility.

Maybe have a plan, like a buddy system. The caravan system sounds very similar to the caravan styles ants use. Highly ineffective AND if anything happens the leader gets the blame. NOT COOL. If you have 8 people, have 4 of the 8 be leaders and only have to escort their buddy. The only trick is having the 4 people get together with a planned route. On the trek back, the buddy becomes the leader so the stress level is evened. No more stragglers I hope!

Pete dont think this is an attack on you. Its not. I led the UBAB drive last year if you remember and I know its frustrating as hell. It's so much more stressful for the leader. You are constantly worrying about everyone. At least I was. The thing is someone always trys to show off, and the others think its cool and want to drive faster too. We all just need to have a higher level of maturity on caravans, nuff said.

No i meant the fall bbq, the first one with your vette. I read that thread, I think thats a great layout for how a drive should be organized. It should be made a sticky, and referenced every time there is a drive planned.

I was only making a suggestion...I hope I didn't start anything.

I know it's hard to keep group of cars together...but we managed to keep 10-14 cars together back in the days with the help of 2-way radio; therefore, made the suggestion.
