Looking for advice
#21
Well.... I finally got my car back this morning. Everything seems to be running OK to me, but only time will tell.
They ended up not needing to replace the cylinder head. McGrath ended up sending it to their Honda dealership in St. Charles and have one of their Honda techs take a look at it. They determined that the real issue was a faulty throttle body.
When the car was at idle, the throttle body was send a .2V signal back to the ECU, which is out of the expected range (.3V is supposed to be the minimum value, 2V is WOT). This .2V signal was confusing the ECU and thus causing the misfires. They replaced the throttle body.
With just under 10 miles driven on it since getting it back, it is definitely much smoother at idle. I won't be ready to feel the problem is solved until a couple more days of driving.
I didn't have to pay for this repair.... but taking 7 weeks to figure this out was irritating. If McGrath Acura would admitted they couldn't figure it out and sent it to their Honda dealership sooner, I would probably have gotten my car back a whole lot sooner.
