800 and something views on this thread and only 3 s2000's registered... What are you all waiting for? lol
This is the best entry point for motorsports and is geared for beginners or people just interested in learning more about their car. Attending one autocross event makes you a better driver than a great majority of people on the road. You don't need fancy "go fast" parts, better suspension or anything like that.... all you need is a functional car and a compulsion to drive fast.. think about it, why did you buy an s2000?.. come join the fun

For unknown reasons, this board has always seemed more interested in playing with Miatae in tiny lots on slow courses than traveling to Rt. 66.

It's okay, we're nice people... really, we are... mostly.

well, many of us have enough autox experience to not be allowed in learning curve anymore.
So really, 3 new people wanting to join the motorsport drug isnt too bad.

While true, there are surprisingly few S2000's that show up to SCCA(CHI) or TSSCC events. I think we see maybe 2 or 3 non-regulars' S2000s show up for 1 or 2 events each season.

Rt. 66 is the best (autocross) event site in the area, with Lake County Fairgrounds second; SCCA-CHI's and TSSCC's 'home' sites, respectively.

I disagree with that... i run with pretty much every chicago land autoX club and i see more s2000's on the street than i do at events in our area.. just spotted 4 s2000's yesterday that i have never seen before. I talked with 2 of them and i hope they find their way to this thread.

So if you have only run with WCMC ( Windy City Miata Club ) even for over a year i encourage you to check out SCCA i promise you will learn something new. I will say WCMC is a great club, lots of runs and friendly people.

One of the two here [SSM AP1 spotted near 53 Northbound & Palatine Rd], I'm definitely considering it. Although I have been working for the past two years since I acquired this chassis on prepping the car for road race duties, I still need to get new motor/trans mounts as my chassis is part of the 200k+ club and they're on their way out. Not sure if it will happen before the Learning Curve event though as the ones I've ordered are still on back order. Either way, thanks for the invite Marlboro [Mike?]!

PS - If you want to see more S2000s being used in motor sport locally, most seem to attend open track days and TT days like WMHM and GridLife at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, Michigan and/or Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Illinois. Also, another way to stay in-tune would be via the Upper Mid-West S2000 Owners group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/162783260401848/ Members are always talking about the upcoming events on there.

PSS - Nice looking CR, Apex Blue is one of the best in my opinion

Hey marlboro, I was the other s2000 that you saw at the Dyno. I was the black sc AP2 after you. I was really wanting to do this but the car wasn't able to finish being tuned due to a knock sensor going out and issues with the meth setup. I don't think I will have it fixed and tuned by this event. Are there any other events like this coming up?

There's an autocross event almost every weekend... as for events like the learning curve with instruction, not really. Attending the Learning Curve has it's benefits but it's not like you need to do it. You can get assistance at any event but keep in mind autocross is very competitive and assistance is limited. That's what's great about the Learning Curve...you have some of the most competitive people in the sport dedicating their time to you.

Here's a link to another local club I run with... you'll find all the event information there.
