Yeah, I wish I could have made it. Sounds like you guys need to get a radio system formed or something. It kind of bothers me that you guys had one of your group wreck their car and almost nobody knew about that. Not good. What if he had needed help? Nobody would have been there.

If we get radios what kind should we get? I know someone mentioned that they already had one that they found. Was it a Talkabout?

I don't think it matters. Any of the radios will access the same channels. As long as you're on the same channel the radio doesn't matter. If anyone knows differently, let me know.

It depends on what radio you use. A CB radio cant access the FRS channels used by the Talkabouts. Talkabouts would be better for our usage considering that a CBs range is not good if it is a portable unit. I have no plans on installing a good CB in my car. I personally think talkabouts are the way to go. We could go with CBs with magnetic mount antennas and cig lighter plugs but they dont work much better than the portable CBs.

I have two talkabouts and they were fairly cheap when i bought them. Now even cheaper and they have rechargeable models.

Yea, any FRS should be able to talk to any other FRS. Brand doesn't matter. Some of the better ones have headsets and advanced features...

I brought my Motorola Talkabouts on the trip and had no problem communicating with Byron during the ride (with the exception that the ringing spooked me whever I was paged on it). These have a range of a good mile, so they would be perfect for this kind of thing.
