Default Help me cut holes in my hood?

Yup I'm crazy, after seeing a couple of these threads I am inspired!
Has anyone tried this? Anyone have an airsaw that can help with this project?

Anyone crazy enough to join me?

just delete the whole hood entirely. j/k

As long as you don't cut into any of the hood reinforcement (or whatever its called) it should be fine. But any holes without proper consideration will make the hood crease when the hood flexes.

If i were you, i'd just get a vented hood and not go all out ghetto.

you've seen my bumper, you know how bad a DYI job can be.

p.s. my ghetto bumper was not done by me. it was done by professional crack heads that needed a quick fix.

I like the idea....if you do decide to try this (or find someone with the right tools and skills), let me know. I'd be interested in doing the same to my OEM hood.

i recomend an pneumatic nibbler. it's a lot like an air powered hole puncher. cuts metal very well.
a saw will just tear it up leaving rough edges.

i'll do it for ya if i had the time and place.
to get what youre looking for would probably be about a few days work.
few hours to make the template, another to get the outline onto the hood, few more to cut it, more hours to finish the edges, couple more hours to put on whatever it is youre planning on using to prevent foreign debris getting in(wire screen, or fab a water tray/trap like on the evo hood), paint, and finally repair any damage you didnt plan on doing but still did anyway.

Actually the template is the framework on the bottom of the hood. That makes location, shape, etc VERY easy.

There have been a couple of DIYs posted about this, and they do reccomend an airsaw. The last guy to do it, had very little to no paint chipping. He painted over the rough edges with touch up paint

if you cut from the inside of the hood you would get very little chipping.

I wouldnt use a pnumatic saw, but thats just cause that gd air hose is a bitch to manage, and I own a great bosch jigsaw that would do just as good of a job.

It doesn't look nearly as complicated. Heres the link to the DIY:

I just don't have the tools or metal cutting experience

Find S2K's park somewhere and practice on those.
